Dolphin is by far my favorite emulator and I'd say its the most user friendly one I've used next to the ones on Vizzed. Its very easy to use and isn't too difficult to run. If you pm me I can help you get the official build of Dolphin. I use a custom build called Ishiiruka that makes it run a lot smoother. Download the latest version of it.
Here is what games look on my computer compared to the original Wii.
Kirby Return to Dreamland on Dolphin

Kirby Return to Dreamland on the Wii

Super Smash Bros Brawl on Dolphin

Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii

You can play with a real wii remote, a gamecube controller, your keyboard, a usb controller, and more. Dolphin can even have smooth netplay sessions if the players have a good connection. If there is some interest we could definitely have netplay games.

Dolphin is by far the best emulator I've found. It's easy to run, doesn't need great specs (at least when attempting Gamecube) and it's quite easy to toy around with the settings should it be needed.

The main version works quite well for me, but if I have any trouble in the future when attempting to emulate Wii, I'll make sure to test out that custom build you linked. I may not be suited for netplay due to distance and connection, but still we won't know for sure until we try.

It does bug me a bit that the compatibility list isn't that reliable. Games marked as Perfect don't work as such, and games marked as Playable have literally no issue. It may give an approximate hint as to how the game plays in general terms, but still you must test for yourself every game and see how your computer manages them.

EX Palen : Another reason Dolphin is great is because the emulators are updated many times a day. Today there were 6 experimental builds added to the website.
The main version probably works good for you because you mostly play gamecube games. The custom build helps with Wii games because the developer works on things that the main dolphin team aren't focused on.
Games that are "playable" probably have some problems that the testers found. For example, Smash Bros works perfectly for me on the Ishiiruka build, but some people on the main build have glitches or frame drops.

earthwarrior : Well, I am using the main build, so I don't see how my tests disagree so much with the compatibility list they offer.

True is that Dolphin is ever expanding, which really shows the commitment of the developers. It's hard to find emulators being so widely developed, maybe only mednafen is up to that but their official website isn't as developed and thus it isn't as easy to run.

earthwarrior : The reason why Dolphin Emulator is better is because it does not go through the AV cables to produce a low-quality image. Instead, it takes the resources straight from the source and has a good outcome.

I actually might take a look at this in the future and see what I can do with it.

I don't usually use emulators (too lazy), but I do use dolphin.
My favorite things about it is that it looks way, way better than my TV, which is a pretty old box model TV. So, anything's better really, but it looks extremely good.
The other thing is that it enables the use of external controllers and the customization of said controllers. This comes into play with me, because I use dolphin to play Nascar dirt to daytona. The reason being is that I can use my steering wheel on it, so the game plays much better for me now and is honestly more enjoyable than when I play it on my gamecube. A wheel on a gamecube game, who would have guessed.

Question about Ishiiruka: is there any chance that it will run better on really slow hardware than the main branch?

m0ssb3rg935 : Yep thats the point of it . I can barley run Super Smash Bros Brawl with the main version, but with Ishiiruka I can upscale it and get perfect 60 fps.

earthwarrior : does "USB controller" include an XBOX ONE controller with a micro-USB cord?

also, do you know if Mario Kart Double Dash has a ROM available anywhere? Or Zelda games? That might be all I'd play on a GameCube, come to think about.

I used to think my computer wasn't able to run Dolphin, but then I tried it and it actually worked much better than I thought if I tweaked a few settings. Some games tend to lag still, such as Mario Kart: Double Dash, but games like Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin work amazingly well. I'm curious as to how the Wii games work. I've never understood how someone can play Wii games on their computer.

earthwarrior : I see that you updated the link to Ishiiruka to redirect to the Dropbox archive containing the latest version. Care to explain a bit if we must download all three files, we must still have a main build Dolphin around and anything else we should know? I'm feeling like testing things out this last month of the year.

earthwarrior : I downloaded the latest version, but when attempting the game I've had the most trouble with the settings I had for the main build (recommended by the emulator's wiki) it failed to continue.

I reset the settings, and the game does work much smoother, but I'm afraid I'll have to look into more detail for the settings and see if I can adjust them in any way. As it goes right now, I don't have high hopes on being able to run Wii games, but I'll do more testing and some time adapting to see if it gets any better.

I may download the latest stable version just to have an ace up my sleeve if needed. For now, I'll keep doing tests and see what can I find out.

EX Palen : What game are you trying? Is dolphin using the right video card? If you have intel graphics it might use that instead. Go to graphics then adapter and it will show which one it is using.
Also you can try closing out programs with the task manager. If I close out steam and chrome I get better performance, unless its already running at 100%.

earthwarrior : Yeah, I didn't close all other programs when testing earlier, but still other times I played the main build with something else open and the change in performance wasn't all that noticeable.

The game is F-Zero GX, and I'm using an NVIDIA card. It's the correct one, because the other one is some Windows basic tool.

I have a problem to report: My Dolphin Emulator suddenly crashed during emulation. At first, it worked well, but the sound started playing something beyond distorted as if the game was possesed. This was fixed after I changed the sound settings. But once I came back, the emulator just crashes after about 6 minutes of playing. I was playing Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, and it worked well until the emulator suddenly crashed. Can anyone help me fix this sudden crashing during emulation?
