Yesterday, I played Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, and easily beat the first quarter. After I was done playing, I saved in the game, and then quit, but the next day, the saved data was gone, and the controls that I've changed resetted back to default. I've played the game for over 2 hours, and it was all for nothing...

How do I save my data and control settings without losing them after quitting? In case you're asking for the Emulator I use, it's primarily MESS.

Did you save your state? Because i thought (and i'm certain about this) that you can only save with states.

No. In fact, I've never saved a state on this site before.

TouchMaster97 : Then that may be the problem.

EDIT: I can't exactly tell how to save a state, but it should be in the menu of your emulator. I can't get to the RGR overall now. Anyway, i think you'll need to save a state each time you quit playing. Only then you can save your progress. Saving in-game doesn't work on these king of emulators.

Hmm... Something like that never happened to me with a GBA game. (Probably  'cause of fact that I'm using VBA.)
Anyway , in some emulators an option to save state is under the "file section" while in other it can be under  "system section."
But from what I remember , saving a state using RGR plugin used a hotkey.

For the systems it supports, I typically recommend MEDNAFEN. It usually runs better, supports in game as well as save states, can record (although I usually don't recommend it, since it's uncompressed), is easy to configure controls... the list goes on.
