Hey guys. I remember back in the day that the owner of game machines was able to tweak the difficulty settings of games. I also think I was able to do it with some mame emulator I used a while ago.
I am wondering if this is possible here at vizzed... pressing escape brings up controls settings but I can't find how to tweak diffuculty. I am interested in Vendetta for Mame in particular. Any ideas? Thanks!

toshicg : You would need to get into the service menu.
I believe the default key for that is F2, but that is also save so you might have to set it to another button.

The newest plugin update changed this to Ctrl+F7, but I've noticed with some games F2 will work instead for some reason. F2 will prompt you to pick a slot to save a state to so cancel it with Esc then that will sometimes open the test menu if Ctrl+F7 doesn't work.

Oldschool777 : Newer games usually have menus for game settings. DIP switches are typically on older boards.

Sorry for double post.... can't summon otherwise.

toshicg : In this game in particular, you are using the ctrl+f7 combination to get to the settings menu.
You have to wait until after the memory check and when the intro starts. That will bring you into a menu, and scroll down to the game settings menu (I believe its menu 7) and press the key you have set to button 1. All the options such as number of lives, continues per coin, and the difficulty are in this menu.
When you are satisfied with the settings, go down to exit and exit again.
The game will then restart with the settings you chose.

Let us know if it worked or if you have more trouble with it.

Oldschool777 : Actually, it doesn't give the option of DIP switches if the board didn't have them, which was the case for Vendetta, where-as a board like Aliens did have DIP switches, so they show in the menu but had no service button, ergo: no menu.
