This enemy is a robot lizard gecko thingy, and it is only found on ladders. Since you usually need to climb ladders to progress, this enemy must be killed if you don’t want to get hurt. Unless you want to time your climb so that you’re climbing when the enemy is behind the ladder, but in my opinion it’s pretty easy to defeat it (excluding when it goes behind the ladder it doesn’t really have any frames or sections where it’s invulnerable to damage). Why a lizard is on a ladder is beyond me.

It appears in Boomer Kuwanger's Stage, and in the remake it also appears in Spark Mandrill and Flame Mammoth’s Stage. Probably because those stages have ladders :p.
