Back when I lived in Frederick Maryland, there was this arcade at the mall there, and sometimes my mom would let me play a few games (we were poor so this was very rare) and one day, I got to try out this fighting game. I didn't check the name because I was around 6 years old maybe, and I never paid attention to my surroundings in any capacity. Basically, though, this was a fighting game with what might have been an ancient Japan setting. I'm not sure if it's Samurai Shodown, specifically for this next part. I remember at one point, I managed to slice an enemy in two so the upper half of their body slid off diagonally. You know, like in those cheesy samurai movies. I just remember this one detail vividly because it was a surprising spectacle of gore from an unexpected place, and I think I also vaguely remember something resembling a map showing your character's progression through an area, almost Castlevania style. I'm asking here because I have gotten no answers so far and I figured if I could find anyone who knows what this game is, they'd probably be on the website full of emulated arcade games.
