This is everyone favourite arcade shooter back in my place when it first came out. Local arcade centre is pack of young people surrounding this arcade machine. Too bad there is only one and everyone is queuing. Anyone who want to give it a go will insert coin into the machine but hell who knows who get their turn next and nobody know how much coins is inserted,usually end up in fighting. In my opinion,this is not the best arcade shooter i ever played. If you are a shooting game fan,you should give it a try.
Now abit of its history. Real time polygonal graphics,thats what they called. its pretty cool at the time. nowadays you look at it,silly boxed limbs and square head. Created by Sega AM2 in 1994,also available in Sega Saturn and Windows few years later. the story involved 2 police officer,Micheal Hardy and James Cools. An undercover was killed by a powerful gangster named EVL after his cover has blown. however some information manages to make its way back to headquarters and revealed the group been dealing with arms trafficking. Micheal and James were sent to investigate.
The game consisted 3 levels. You can start off with any level you want. Stage one is Arms black market, stage two is underground weapon storage and third stage is Gang headquarters. However is you pick the last stage,the game ends after you beat the level. Its better to start off with stage one and make the most the coins you paid into the machine.
When the game start,enemies will appear from random location. A yellow ring will circle around the enemies. (lock on sight) when the circle turns red,the enemy will shoot and hit the player. (lose one life) Multiple enemies may appear at a time so just shoot the one with the fastest ring first. player have unlimited ammo but needed to reload after six shots,point anywhere off the screen to reload.
During the game play,you can shoot things at background like barrels and crates. some of them will explode and some reveal weapons. there are shotgun,magnum and automatic,and rifle/machine gun for 1 time use which you cannot reload. you get to keep the weapon until you lose a life,and you be using your 6 shot revolver again.shooting certain gangster will drop a life too. (only available in stage 2 and 3) sometimes there are civilians and unarmed people appear (do not shoot them,cost one life)
There is a yellow bar on upper left which is for point system. A score multiplier,one the bar is full it will go up once. (max x9) each hit at enemies will increase the bar but 1 hit from the enemy you will lose entire bar (lose x1 multiplier) shoot multiple times on 1 enemy to increase the bar even faster. If you manage to hit the enemy weapon you will get 5000 points. the total max score is 9,999,999
there are boss fight in each level. First boss is Kong,uses a rocket launcher. beware,when he was left with last pixel of his health. he will drop his rocket launcher and grab his gun from his back. second boss is king,who uses a flame thrower. he usually shoot at your few times and hide behind crates and send out his men. third level,a mini boss sitting in a tank (like that ED-209 from robocop) and shoot rockets at you. then the final boss Fang,in a helicopter,shooting rockets and flame.
after defeating the final boss,the game ending show the gangster headquarters surrounded by cops and the mini boss (the bald guy in white suit) is taken away.two heroes stare awhile and turn around and drove off. cinematic was usually short in those time. i had alot of memories playing this when i was a kid. its a fun game and i recommend everyone give it a try.
