I love Saw and the Grudge. I like Haunting in Connecticut too. Although yes, the true story is much scarier.

Well, I have to say that The shining was my favourite horror movie. Although maybe not too scary for me, it offered this cool storyline with some cool parts to it.

Honestly, I prefer psychological horror thrillers to blood and guts slasher films because they have more substance and can actually get to me. I loved 1408, it gave me goosebumps. The first time I saw Signs it actually got to me when they showed the aliens for the first time because it was completely psychological up to that point. It's the unseen threat that gets to me... the rustle of the curtain more than the guy behind the main character with a knife.

The top stop, sadly, has to go to Pet Sematary. It is, to this day, the only movie to ever creep me out so much that I had to stop watching it. Granted, what got me was watching a guy get his Achilles tendon sliced and my sympathy pain because I'd banged mine really good not long before watching it... but it took me two years before I was willing to finish it.

Other movies, like The Shining, are good, but they are not really horror movies to me because I'm not scared by them. Of the horror films, the only one that comes close to giving me chills is Halloween... again for its psychological aspects.

Oh, and Ringu is better than The Ring in every way... but I did enjoy both. Ring 2 sucked though. Loved the makeup.

I usually avoid watching horror movies, because I can't sleep for days.
As long as which is the best, I would say SAW.

I'm not sure what the movie was called, but I was 6 or 7 when my dad had my brother and I for a few hours and he was watching some horror movie back in the 90s where this guy (or girl - I'm 25 now, so it was a LONG time ago) was practically gutted and their insides were somehow hooked to the garage door opener and when their spouse came home, they gutted their lover, in turn killing them. (sorry if it's too graphic, but it's to be expected in a "horror" thread).

I don't know what to say is the best, considering i watch tons and tons of horror movies all the way back to the 1920's, but my favorite of all time is the first Pet Sematary <--that's how its spelled, i'm not stupid. LOL. It has a very cryptic feel to it that i always loved. It's also the first book (novel) I ever read when i was about 7 or 8. I dont like Pet Sematary 2 though at all.

Another favorite of mine is Evil Dead 1. Not Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness just Evil Dead 1. The first half of it is awesome and very cryptic, but in the 2nd half it starts to be too much comedy and loses the feeling, unfortunately.

So... with both of my favorites I'm in love with the original and dont like the sequals at all.

other one was at first is the new taxes chain saw massacre loved the isolation effect of the locals who are crazy and finding jars of body parts in random places and crazy local sheriff lolol.

I personally don't think that movies like Saw should really be in the same category as other horror movies. Don't get me wrong, even though I don't like them, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with them (other than the inherent wrongness with any movie like that), but the style is totally different. There's nothing to really get into, it's pure psychopathic violence, mutilation, and bloody death. There's not enough to the story.

I, like Elara, much prefer the horror movies that are more involving. I also like how sometimes it's the little things that are the most creepy. My favorite horror movie to date is mirrors, because it's taking something that you see hundreds of times every day and turning it into something that can kill you. I had to watch my reflection in the mirror until I was out if sight for three days before I was comfortable. What I found the most creepy about it was how the mirrors would periodically shudder. That got to me every time.

have you actually watched all 6? There is a story that weaves its way through the entire series. You just don't see much of it in the first 1 or 2.

I do agree that it's not traditional horror.... but the message it delivers in its own way is really good.

Geeo: no, I have not seen all of them, I've only seen some of the first three. In all honesty, I can't even make it all the way through any of them, it just doesn't really hold my interest.

I talked about paranormal activity before, but now that I think back, the movie that messed me up the most for the longest was Blair Witch Project. I watched it when I was 8, and it gave me nightmares for a week. It made me so afraid of the dark because I was just so scared that "something" would get me. T_T

I don`t see how people liked paranormal activity. It was so boring I would have fallen asleep if the people near me in the theater would be quiet.

As for the best horror movie i`ve seen, I haven`t really seen a horror/thriller movie that I REALLY liked and i`ve seen a lot. It always seems to be the same thins over and over again. :/ The shining was ok, I haven`t seen it in such a long time maybe I`ll watch it again.

I haven't seen a horror movie that has really freaked me out in a long while. It saddens me because I enjoy the scare factor in movies.

I'm going to have to agree with Elara and hypermonkey. The psychological horror films always seem to be the best. The last horror movie I watched that actually scared me was Signs. The one part where they showed the one alien on top of the barn and the video they showed of the birthday party in Mexico (I know it doesn't sound to frightening when you say it like that ) kept me awake at night and I couldn't go near my grandparents barn in the dark without watching the top of it for a while. This is when i was thirteen or fourteen though. Now I mainly just watch horror movies for the story lines, like Silent Hill or The Shining.

Well I haven't seen so many horror movies, none of the old classics, but of the ones I've seen it's Paranormal activity.

Hmmm, this is going to be a hard one. Now if I base it on a movie I just love, then I would have to say The Lost Boys, not really a horror to me but a good movie.

If I wanted to go with scariest I have ever seen, I would have to say either Paranormal Activity, Paranormal Entity or What Lies Beneath.

So those are the ones I would choose off hand. I have more but I can't really think of them right now lol.

sharp :
The Shining hands down is my favorite horror flick but I am a big Jack Nicholson fan so I am biased in regard to that movie. I also loved Misery and Psycho. If I had to pick more than three I would say the original Friday the 13th and the original Nightmare on Elm Street would make my top five. I am not much on remakes in any genre so I haven’t checked out any of the recent Halloween remakes, are they worth buying the DVD’s?

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
