Brawlhalla is basically the Steam version of Super Smash Bros and Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. Mainly this means that it would be very very similar, and it is, but the game is still in its early stages and has quite a bit of promise. I got the game during it's very first beta around a few days after it was released and I liked what I saw. Sure, there were quite a few bugs and there was a warning that any ranked data might be randomly erased, and let's not forget that most of the features listed in the games menu weren't even accessible. I was, however able to look past all that because the gameplay hooked me from the beginning.

When I was first invited to the beta, I didn't know anything about the game, I was the first time hearing the name, but I watched a video of it and decided to give it a try. To me, the game looked like a simpler version of Smash but looked very promising and turned out to be quite addicting.

GRAPHICS 8/10

The graphics weren't all that bad, especially for a game that was still in beta and had more to come. A lot of the stages looked really good, full of color and detail, and the characters look pretty good as well. Like any fighting game, the animations are usually what sell the game in this category, whether its how the characters move or the way the attacks look, and some of them are pretty sweet, especially in my opinion, Brynn's moves. There isn't really anything else to say about how the game looks, but I believe it can get even better in the future as updates roll out. For now, I can't deny that the game is appealing to the eye, and for a grade, graphics is going to get an 8 out of 10.

SOUND 9/10

The sounds were something that I had liked about the game, probably the 2nd best aspect behind the actual gameplay because even though there were a few small bugs, I really liked it. The bug that I experienced was that sometimes the game started off too loud. Most of the time I had to start the game with the volume down, wait about 20 seconds, and the turn the volume back up to where I was. This might have been fixed by now, but it wasn't a problem and wasn't something that would hurt the way you play the game and aside for that, the sounds were fine, great actually. I liked parts of the music, which I think fit the games style nicely, and the normal battle sounds were simple but effective. The sounds aren't the best, doesn't have the top music, but it's in good standing and for a grade, this category is going to get a 9 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 9/10

There's no denying that the game is fun, I you have played Smash or Playstation All Stars, or are even excited about the upcoming Pokken Tournament, then you are probably a fan of fighting games and would find a game like this to be quite interesting. Sure, there aren't that many things for you to do, but what you can do is still fun and will make you want more. You can play alone against bots to test how much skill (or lack of) you have, you can play with friends, or you play against players all over the world to rank up and compete against the best. In fact, ever since the game first came out there have been countless tournaments in addition to the normal ranked matches so even if the normal gameplay doesn't hook you, the massive competitive nature should eventually. Whether you are playing alone or against real people, the game is a lot of fun, and for a grade, addictiveness I going to get another 9 out of 10.

STORY N/A

There isn't much of a story real because right now the game is just "fight based." Like I mentioned in the previous categories, the things that you can do include playing against bots, friends, and people around the world, there isn't much of a story mode to the game as much as there's a "just play" mode, so for now I'm going to leave this section without a grade.

DEPTH 8/10

For a new game that still has quite some work to be done, it has a lot to offer. First off you have the rosters, which include both the characters and the stages. There aren't a lot for either one but they will grow and if even if you play as each character and on each stage, you would have racked up a pretty decent play time, so there's nothing wrong with the roster size. There could be more game modes, but what the game does have is fine and there's also the ability to save the video footage of each match which I think is amazing. I never found a way to actually save it to your computer when I was messing around with it though, but it's still an amazing thing to have. Overall, the game has enough to keep you occupied for many hours and for that, the grade for depth is going to be an 8 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 3

First off, you should use a controller for this game of you have one. The game can be played with just the keyboard, but for some, it could end up being quite tough. As for the actual game play, the difficulty is split between who you are playing against. If you are playing against bots then it can be very easy but if you are playing against real people, it can be quite a challenge, especially if you are going up against who has a good strategy. For the most part, all you need to do is learn how to use your character, learn their strengths and weaknesses, and come up with your own plan of attack and you will be fine against both bots and humans. Once you do that the game can be quite easy and for a grade, difficulty is going to get a 3.

OVERALL 8.5/10

The game is a lot of fun and pretty easy to get into. I have seen people clock in more than 100 hours into this game and I don't blame them because not only is it fun, but there's so much being added all the time, in fact if I'm not mistaken, there was a new character added just last week so that ends up changing a lot and should mean that there's still more to come. The game is still listed as an Early Access game right now and its free to play as well so why aren't you playing it? I played a couple hours, got Brynn a bunch of levels higher, entered a tournament and in general had a blast and I'm sure others will have fun playing this as well, especially those who like fighting games. Overall it's a fun game and my grade for it is going to be an 8.5 out of 10.
