Have you ever was playing a game where you suddenly fought a boss that was impossible to defeat regardless of what you did? Or won a battle that you were purposely suppose to lose? I recall one of the final fantasy games having it. At the beginning you were fighting these knights and there was no way to win. I can't remember which one, though. Also trails of cold steel have a few fights like this as well. So, has this ever happened to anyone of you before?

The only instance of this I can recall is with Max Payne 3 back in 2012-13.

I was still a noob and when I got to the final boss, I died again and again and again. The final boss is basically a dude on high ground firing grenades down on you while he sends his armoured goons to kill you. The grenades are instant death and the wave of goons last for minutes. It took me well over fifty tries to figure out you could shoot the grenades before they got to you. Even still, it was only another 10 or so tries to beat him.

Then I got good and I haven't had problems with the fight since.

The battle against A, in Digimon Digital Card Battle. Not even 50% into the game, and this dude always playing the same strategy, bringing out one of the most powerful cards just on his first turn. He also had all the "forbidden" cards you won't be getting until 80% into the game, and had all the top notch cards, so it was extremely hard to beat. I lost the count of how many tries I used, but it lasted for like three days at least, which is an awful lot.

Recently, playing Saint Seiya Soldier's Soul, I also faced a very cheap boss named Hilda. She could attack at mid range easily while you could only attack at short range, her special attack is guided, her supreme attack is unleashed in 0.1 seconds when your supreme attack is unleashed in 3 seconds at the very least... I was very close on giving up on her just because of how cheap she was. And good thing I left her episode as the final one, because technically it's the second storywise out of four total episodes.

Probably I could also mention Hydra Gundam, from Gundam Battle Assault. He could use a shield to defend without taking damage from your laser beams, something only him can do, had a powerful laser beam without consuming energy, his unblockable attack dealt double hits than nobody else... It was annoying, but before him, there was Psycho Gundam MKIII, which was like three times it's size, with an attack that depleted a full life bar and extreme range on his unblockable attack. Two in one.

The game you're talking about is Final Fantasy II.  You can argue which "real" Final Fantasy it is, Japan/American version but you're Cecil, the Dark Knight, and the mission is to be the Paladin.  The only way to win is to not fight and you're quickly defeated.  But, when you don't strike, you end up being 'better' than the Dark Knight, or something like that.

If I'm not mistaken, Final Fantasy X has a battle where you have to lose to Sin and there's no way around it.

Outside of that, I only lost hopeless boss fights when I was young and didn't understand that not being able to beat a boss meant I wasn't strong enough and I needed more levels.

And sometimes NCAA football and Madden cheat like **** and you can't win.

I almost completed Luigi's Mansion 2. And i'm not at the boss of the final world YET, it's just that i need to catch a holy jelly load of ghosts, all types! I first have to catch 4-8 ghosts in the house itself, then i need to go to the portal where they come from, where the 'fun' can start: ALL GHOSTS are at this place. It's 1 vs 100. My god, i never saw such a hard level, i keep on failing. I quit the game at the moment, when i play it i'm still stuck at that level...

Any tips?
