So here's the deal. We Americans (Yankees) were once part of the British empire until we kicked some serious (Red Coat) butt back in the 1700s.

But here's the question:

After 239 years of not being one huge world-power hungry family, how do we each celebrate Christmas and why?

Feel free to ask about particular customs and food like: Gravy and Biscuits

other countries feel free to talk about your customs too.

Well, actually when the Pilgrims came to America, they made celebrating Christmas was illegal because of it's origins in pagan Sun God Worship. I won't take part in the holiday myself because of the Bible commands us not to learn any of the pagan customs of other peoples. The prophet of Jeremiah even specifically condemning the children of Israel for learning the Egyptian custom.

Christmas is incredibly old and malformed from it's original state, but even today a few of the things we do in it are pretty sick and twisted. I don't talk about it because of how hostile people can get over the mere mention of such origins, but I feel like every year I have to mention that somewhere.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Sword legion :

You get a like, simply for bring in philosophy! I find it interesting to study the different customs of society. On a side note(just because I don't feel like it'll be thread worthy), what celebrations do you participate in? Feel free to PM, if you feel your views will upset the majority.

let's see what happens when the politically correct idiots invade this thread and say "christmas is offensive to everyone who doesn't celebrate it rage ban put on criminal record"

Which is a load of rubbish. It's probably a very low minority which get offended by Christmas, many who don't celebrate it at least acknowledge its existence and get on with it.

Britain is copying America just how Firefox is copying Chrome. We're just turning into commercialised, politically correct, consumerist, and misinformed 'livings' these days, and we also interfere with what goes on in other parts of the world too, everything has to be commercial and popular to actually exist.

I mean, I don't mind political correctness when it's done right, but enforcing it onto everything and basically losing humour, traditions and other sorts is just plain wrong in my opinion. There's no such thing as Free Speech.

back to the topic of the thread

The actual British Christmas was good, I suppose, but unfortunately I was brought up in this era and it meens I have the commercial junk and sales. I bet 70% of population think Boxing Day was made for selling stuff or something.

Luigi442wii :

XD so basically like America. We scream "There is No Free Speech anymore!" all the time. We have the "Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas" every year. Black Friday is a war zone. Not to mention the "buy this, buy that, buy this, but that". I'm surprise we haven't gotten religious over it yet, like "Jesus will be disappointed if you don't by this"...oh wait.. we have Food Buckets. It's not on all the channels but any info commercial I come across on my TV has that guy selling food buckets and more times I've heard "Jesus would want you too get this" or "Think about all the third world people". I can't help but want to slap these folks for guilt tripping people into doing the opposite of what they really need to do. They got Christmas into right now... "Remember it's the season of Love, Peace, and Happiness... celebrate our savior's Birthday buy gifting us $3000 and we'll send you a Food Bucket!" v.v

You'd figured we'd actually treat the holidays with respect, but nooo.... Selfish we are!

However, I was more interested in the types of traditions you folks have over there that we might not have here and vice versa.

What?
It's because modern society has to believe adverts and company offerings to survive and that's it. If I designed a telly I would put AdBlock Plus on it, or something like that.
I won't be surprised by in a few years, everyone will have to reply to spam threads just because a TV advert said so...
