Getting a similar treatment as The Legend of Zelda, Akira Toriyama’s iconic JRPG series Dragon Quest will be getting a Dynasty Warriors revamp in a spin-off title labeled Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below.

While the game is definitely heavily influenced by Dynasty Warriors and other slash and hack action games, it contains its own RPG spin to stay true to the Dragon Quest spirit. Featuring thirteen playable characters, five of which are original to the game and eight of which are fan favorites from past DQ installments, the game also boasts enhanced graphics. Though its plot seems rather run-of-the-mill JRPG (everyone is living happily until monsters go berserk for some unknown reason; the chosen hero(es) must band together and destroy the evil behind it all), Akira Toriyama designed all new characters, and famed composer Koichi Sugiyama returned to add his own flair to the score.

The game was previously released on the PS4, coming to the U.S. in October. However, English-speaking fans will be able to purchase a digital download of the PC version of the game on December 3 using the Steam client, making Dragon Quest Heroes the first Dragon Quest installment to appear on Steam and the first PC game to make its way out of Japan after the English launch of the PC port of Dragon Quest IX never happened (though it is possible to play the game in Japanese, since there is no IP block for the MMORPG).

The Steam edition of the game will have the same pre-order goodies as the PS4 Day One bundle, including the variety of slime-themed weapons advertised for the prior release and two bonus maps.

Playable characters include Luceus and Aurora (Act and Mar in the Japanese), the original heroines of the game, three other new characters, and veterans Maya, Kiyrl, Alena, Bianca, Nera, Terry, Jessica, and Yangus.

Ahh yeah, super hyped for this. While I was never able to get far into the Dragon Quest games (the DS ones are hard to emulate and I just recently got the money for the proper consoles) I always loved their artwork and music. Hopefully we can see Steam ports of previous Dragon Quest games in the future.

I was really excited for this game at first....but they don't have any multiplayer....
They have AI that you play with, so why couldn't they allow another player to take control of them?
Hopefully, with a PC version, someone can make a mod to allow that...

I love these alternative versions of the Dynasty Warriors series, even more so than the original franchise. It adds so much to the experience to play as / against your favorite characters. It is extremely disappointing to hear there's no multiplayer though. I generally tend to play these kinds of games with a friend, so that's a bummer. My favorite of them all would be the Zelda take, but I'm also looking forward to playing this one almost as much.
