To this day, I recognize this game as "The Luigi Game", simply because this game was the first to have Luigi in it. Not only that, but this game is the earliest game I know of to feature 2 player co-op. This game has got to have revolutionized the game industry in some way.

This game pays a lot of attention to detail. The platforms wobble like a super thick noodle when Mario (or Luigi) hits them, the coins and icicles not only look great, but sparkle too, and the Mario brothers and some of the enemies have whites in their eyes. I don't see a lot of whites in character's eyes in games back then.
Sound:6
I have to admit that some sounds, such as the walking sounds and coin collecting sounds, can hurt my ears. Those are my only complaints about sound though. This game doesn't offer too much when it comes to sound. They nailed the POW block sound, and Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik, was a nice touch. Spell check is going to hate me for typing in German.
Addictiveness:8
For the first two stages, the game seems repetitive, but then you learn that there is a bonus stage. Not only that, but then you learn there are sidesteppers on phase 4. Then the shellcreepers fight with them. Later on, there are fighter flies, fire balls, and icicle things. Then things start to get interesting. The game offers new things constantly to keep you entertained.
Story:1
A simple game needs a simple story. By simple I mean that there isn't one.
Depth:5
Like I said before, there are a lot of enemies and modes. The game offers a whole bunch, yet you are forced to be in a small area that you can't escape. That's how most early 80's arcade games were right? I don't know. I wasn't even alive in the 90's.
Difficulty:7
Phases 1-7 are kind of easy, but every phase after that (excluding the bonus stages), are super hard. Projectiles and enemies are coming at you from every direction. You have to defeat them all. The hard levels go on for a long time, and only get harder each phase. This is one of those games that is easy to learn, and hard to master.
Overall:8.7
This game is a blast. It is even more of a blast when you have another player to play with. I have so much fun when I play this game with my friends on my NES. Now stop reading my review and go play the game.
