megamanX ultra : It seems odd that it's completely plausible to get rid of a virus on a desktop, yet laptops just hate their owners to no end and refuse to help get rid of it.

I had some. I didn't discovered until my dad scan my computer. He found lots of viruses, one of them was called "Heart Clock"... what the heck of a name!
that was because I didn't had an antivirus. But this happened in my Windows ME, my actual one is XP, luckily.

When i was in middle school i would download random stuff (not anything illegal except the occasional song) BUT.... my mom had limewire on there (didn't know that was what caused it at the time but now that i know more about it i think it was that) and it completely messed my pc up. My firewall literally disappeared i don't know how but something messed up its files (this is like what it was but on XP http://www.gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t68793.html so i am guessing that a virus messed up some OS files), after reinstalling XP it worked fine.

I'm sure all of you have heard of that annoying virus where you're basically scammed into buying fake antivirus software. Since I knew that it wasn't real, I never payed much mind to it. I haven't been affected by the virus lately, lol. The last time it popped out was about three or four months ago... maybe longer. Hehe, maybe it gave up on me not buying it's "software", so it stopped bothering me.

I had one, because I allowed my friend to use her usb, without checking it first(huge mistake, but I was in a hurry). I couldn't get rid of it, so I had my PC formated. Now it works perfect.

But I think this thread fits better in "Computer / Programming / Technology Discussion" forum, so I'll move it there

Crono did about 3 years ago. Now a days when he notices something weird going on, he'll use the system restore tool: Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. It restores your computer back to a certain date. So, if it's July 19th today, then you can restore previous settings in which were at, let's say July 15th. Then, your computer will be normal again. However, it is to be done quickly as if you catch a virus, system restore may possibly not help you. That aside, Crono doesn't use anti-virus software,

Crono : You should probally use at least a free antivirus program, system restore doesnt solve alot of things because if the virus is in a file that is on your pc that you downloaded it just needs to activate itself again.
And there are viruses that make it that the system restore doesnt work properly.
Just a bit of helpful advice for you

I just got finished clean the second of 2 I have ever gotten. The 1st was looking for a no-disc crack for Sims 2, and the second, my Avast shield went down and let something in, and I still can't use IE or Chrome, neither will load anything.

The sad thing is, viruses have gone commercial. In the olden days, they were primarily designed to do damage and annoy people. Now days, viruses are designed to make money, either by selling something to unlock your computer, or to steal information to hack your accounts.
