N+ is a platformer based game, but with a small twist to things. Unlike the standard platformer, this one isn't entirely about finishing the level as quick as possible, but ultimately... your real objective is to survive. With a very unique soundtrack, a few additional characters (mostly just a palette change), and this game being available on four different consoles (NDS, Xbox, Playstation, and PC), you are sure to access it somehow.
BUT WAIT! There's more...
Also, unlike traditional platformers, you can also create your own levels, download and/or play other people's levels, and compete in time trials (as well as other challenges). In an overall summary, I can truthfully say that N+ (The Way Of The Ninja) is the best "alternative" platformer I have had the chance to play.
I highly recommend you play this, however, the NDS version doesn't allow playing other people's levels (as the Nintendo servers for NDS have been disconnected).
