I just love video games, and I'm pretty sure that you do ad well if you're reading this. I love them so much that the moment I saw the title for this game, I right away knew that I had to play it. Playing a video game can be a lot of fun, but what can be better than creating a game however you want and calling it your own? I sure know I have dreamed up a few game ideas in the past and thought about what they would be like, and I know that others have as well. That's what this game is for, its a fantasy that brings all of those fantasies to life.

The moment that I saw this game for the very first time, I didn't hesitate, I right away did whatever I could to get the game because I knew that I wanted to play something like this. This is really one heck of a game and I'm really happy that I have been able to get my hands on it because it's so much fun to play. From the very first time that I played the game, it was almost impossible to stop, after just a couple of days playing the game, I would find myself playing for 3 straight hours or longer and completely losing track of the time. Its really nothing more that a standard simulation and Tycoon game where you sit in and office and do various business tasks, but it's still a ton of fun.

GRAPHICS 6/10

Its a simulation game, so in a way big graphics are not needed in order for the game to be good. There are some big games under this genre that do end up using all sorts of massive effects to wow the gamers, but that's only really used as a bonus to make the game even more popular, but for a simulation game such as this one to be good, there are some aspects that you need to put extra effort into and some that can work well with a basic layout, and the graphics are one of those aspects.

The entire game takes place in an assortment of office buildings, which for those all you need is the design for what the inside of the office looks like, so not much is needed. When you hire or fire a staff member, they don't walk in, all they do is randomly appear in their seat and disappear, so there's no need for any special animations. Just because graphics aren't needed doesn't mean that the developers didn't put any into the game, there was still a good amount of effort put into the development of the game to make sure that it looks as good as it is fun to play. The characters, building objects, game systems, and other random objects are all full of color and have a cool design to them that would label then as just a bit over good for graphics. Overall, my grade for graphics is going to be a 6 out of 10.

SOUND 7/10

The sounds of the game are pretty cool, though like a lot of PC games that I have been playing recently, I like it for the music more than the sound and dont really care too much for the sounds of the game at all. I would have to say that aside for addictiveness and maybe one other category, the music makes the sound category one of the best parts of the game. When you turn on the game, you are right away greeted by the music and though its not as energetic as some other games that I have played recently, I really liked some of the songs and found them to be quite fun to listen to.

There are two songs that stand out to me the most and they are the 1st one and the 3rd one that play in the soundtrack. The main one is a lot of fun to hear and the other one is just ad good and they are both pretty short so you don't have to force yourself to listen through it. Other than the music, there's only a couple other sounds that could be thrown around here and there and I mentioned I dont care too much for them but happen at various events. If it hadn't been for the music, the sound would have gotten a pretty bad grade but with such good music, my overall grade for sound is going to be a 7 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 10/10

I can't lie and say the games not addicting when I'm talking about Game Dev Tycoon, there's just no way that I can say the game isn't fun. The game has so much potential to one day become of the best tycoon games of all time because the game has so much to offer and there are so many different opportunities to have a good time with it. This game is really just a blast, who doesn't want to see what its like to start up your very own game company? I couldn't put the game down, there were times where I would play for hours and not care about anything except for the game that I was working on.

When you are working on a game, you get to choose everything about it, you create the title, topic, genre, system, and later on once you start researching stuff, there's so much more to add to make your game a bestseller. During the actual creation of the game, there's still so much for you to do, you have to choose what aspects are the most important for the game such as graphics, AI, sound, dialogue, and more, and you have to choose how much effort is put into each one. There's just so much to do, you can hire and train employees, you can research so many different things, design your own engine, and once you get deeper into the game, you can create your own convention, your own line of game consoles, and a heck of a lot more.

The main game takes place over the course of 35 years which should take about a couple of hours to beat, but once I passed that point, I was having way too much fun to just stop playing. I kept on playing the game for many more years unlocking new featured until I finally went bankrupt and I wanted more because it was so much fun. The game is a blast and my grade for this category is going to be a perfect 10 out of 10.

STORY 7/10

There isn't really much of a story aside for trying to stay in business for as long as you can before you go bankrupt and make as much money as you can beforehand. When you first start playing the game, your only goal is to not go bankrupt because this is one of the easist times to get caught up and go bankrupt. As you play the game more, your overall goal is to stay in business for the full 35 years of the story and pull together as much fame for your company as you can. By the time 35 years are over, everything that you have done with your company is going to get a score and then everything will be added together to offer you an overall score to show how well you played the game.

In order to get money and fame, there's a bunch of things that must be done, some of these include developing your own game across multiple systems and engines, research game aspects, and creating different programs. The most important thing to do is make sure your game is the best so that you can sell as many copies as you can and so that each game gets as high a grade as it can. There really isn't much more to the story than everything I just said. it might not be a lot to most gamers in terms of a story, but everything that's there is a lot of fun and easy to work with. My grade for story is going to be a 7 out of 10.

DEPTH 10/10

For the most part, this is really a closed game. I mean that in the sense that you mainly play the game and do stuff in one main place which would be the office building that you use. With a game like this, all you do is pick between all of the available options and then the game really does everything for you, and some users might not like that, however in terms of the options that you can choose from, there's so much for the game to offer. First you have dozens of different game topics that pretty much come up with everything and then you have different genres to choose from. Just choosing between the topics and genres could leave you with hundreds of different combinations and then putting the carious systems to choose from in the mix could offer a thousand or more different combinations.

Then on top of that you have the ESRB ratings to choose from, you have to pick what size game you want to develop, and dozens of different game aspects to add to your very own engine. On e you progress more into the game, you will even get to design your own system with so many new options to choose from and even MMO games as well. All that might only be half of what the game has to offer since there's so much more available to players such as your staff department, conventions, publishing contracts, and more. Just the staff department offers a lot as there's a ton of people to choose from and so many ways to train them. Overall for depth, the game has a ton and as for a grade, I see no reason for it not to get another perfect 10 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 5

There are going to be times where this game will be really challenging and difficult and there's no way to avoid it really. I mean, why would they make a business game about making video games easy? It's not easy in real life either so it does make sense that the game is going to be a bit tough to play. The game will be the most difficult at the beginning and I would call this part the death zone because if you make one small mistake on one of your early games, you might not have enough money to turn it around and you will find yourself going bankrupt really quickly. This can happen at any point really, but if you make mistakes later on you will have opportunities to fix yourself, but if you make one mistake after another and can't seem to get things right, you're going to find your company dead no matter how much money you had when you made that first mistake.

Once you get a hang of the game, its going to be a bit easier but you can't rest, you're always going to have to be as precise as you can be if you don't want to fail. You also need to be patient, you need to have everything planned out and you can't rush into things. When I made my first console, I right away bought the expensive one and then my finances just started spiraling down because I just wasn't ready. I kept losing more and more money per year and it got to the point where I spent more on purpose to go bankrupt because there was literally no way to get back to where I was before.

With so many different combinations, you're bound to fail, so the only thing you need to do to stay alive is learn from your mistakes and not do the same thing over. The game is not exactly hard but it can have an abundance of tough challenges and for that, my grade for difficulty is going to be a 5.

THE NEGATIVES

Honestly, of all if the games that I have played recently, this would have to be the one that had the fewest amount of negative aspects, and in my opinion, this game only has one which was discussed a little. The only negative I can think of is how easy it is to mess up, no matter how good you are, you are going to fail and if you do fail, you have to make sure that you have the resources to get back up or its game over for you.

OVERALL 8.4/10

When it comes to the overall game, I think that the developers have done a great job with this one. The game was developed by Greenheart Games and I believe that this was the first game they made, which in my opinion makes the game just a bit better. If they can have this much success on just their first game, then I can't wait to see what they have for us in the future. They did a great job in making sure that this game is addicting and a lot of fun, and in the end, it does teach us a bit about the business and design parts of the video games that we all know and love.

If you have not played this game before, then I suggest that you give it a shot because if you are a fan of business games, then this will be as close to perfect as it can get. Even if you don't like tycoon games, try it out anyway so you can live out one of your fantasies. Just give it a try and see what it's like because at times this can be a very fun game and my overall grade for Game Dev Tycoon is going to be an 8.4 out of 10.

Wow, that's another excellent review of yours. Despite its being longer than what you usually do, you don't get lost into details and you do show your, er, deep love of the game. Cheers!
