Well, I am pretty sure a lot of you have read my review on Madden 2004 and how much I loved it, but this is the game that came a year before, and let me tell you, 2004 was the year for madden. This game really wasn't all that amazing in all, and wasn't even close to as good as the 2004 version of Madden, and with it only being a year apart, it is pretty sad.

Graphics: 4
Graphics in this game are good to say the best. The animations are alright, but can actually get pretty slow and choppy at times. The cut scenes and replays and all of those, just aren't at all that great. When players try and get the ball, sometimes it is slow and you can't really see what is happening. The graphics in this game were pretty faulty and sad, but not too bad (like madden '99, which was pretty bad). The graphics, just referring to pixels and not the movement of pixels was pretty good, as EA had that part down. They knew how to just make a picture and have it look pretty but they just didn't have the whole animation game down yet. I enjoyed all of that just normal sitting there stuff, but when it came game time and I was doing jukes and all of that, the graphics failed to impress. If best, the graphics in the game are good, they aren't anything exceptional or any of that. The loading screens and home screens look awful, it just hurts my eyes its so bad. Also, there are like pattern on the plays when you are trying to select them, and it just looks awful.

Sound: 6
To me, this was the weakest Madden game when it came to the sound track. In Madden 2004, and even in Madden '99, the sound tracks are catchy and enjoyable to listen to, but in this game, the songs are pretty bad. They are trying to be upbeat and all of that, but fail to really get the player motivated to play the game or really get into it. I want to get started on the game to just stop the music, so I don't want to do the create a team or player or any of that stuff that takes time and you listen to a lot of music during. This may seem pretty harsh, but if you were to just listen to it you'd understand just how bad this music is. Next is the sound effects. They were actually pretty good, and why this section got higher than a 2. The sound effects are just like in Madden 2004, which is probably why they decided to carry over the same kind of effects, they were a success. They are clean sound effects and they are easy to listen to, and not hard on the ears. When a player gets hit, it has that kind of sound and not some weird loud thing (hint to '99). I liked the sound effects but hated the music, so this section gets a 6.

Addictiveness: 4
This section you maybe should trust me on, as I did play 2004 before playing 2003, so it may seem a little bias. What I really don't like about this game is again, the music. When you finish a game and come back to the home screen to hear that bad music, than you really want to just shut off the dang system, which is what you do most of the time. The game it's self, not really being that great, just drives you away. I only played the game for a few hours in total in my experience with it, and I was just overall not very impressed with it all. If I want a game that I would like to play over and over, why would I play this? The game is pretty dang annoying so it just doesn't make me want to play it, at all. I even tried to play the game before I wrote this review, but couldn't get through much of the game. The game overall is just really not addicting, and I think they may have actually wanted you to stop playing it and play something else, so I did. I just went back and wrote this review.

Story: 4
God, the story mode in this game is pretty bad. Now I'm not talking about like season mode, I'm talking about franchise mode. This for a start is a sad way to make a story, and which is why I was super glad when there was a Super Star mode on the version of Madden 2004, it gave something that was actually a story to the game. The franchise mode is pretty dumb in this game, which is another thing that they were able to fix going forward. This mode of the game is just really boring and slow, and pretty tough. Just putting your starting team together is pretty dang hard, and once you have done that, your team will be pretty bad. Then you have to continue and put  bunch of other players in to your roaster that are better so that your team can actually win a dang game. Until you have a bunch of good players, your team is pretty much screwed. This mode to me is just stupid to start with, but at least it isn't this boring or awful in the later games. I didn't like this in the game at all to be honest, and a 4 is being very generous to the game. I gave the game a 4 because I like the season mode somewhat. The season mode isn't really completely annoying and is actually fun to play some, until it gets boring. If you set the game on easy to start the season, it is way to easy all the way through, but if you set the game on pro or higher, it is actually really hard! In Madden 2004, it starts easy and gets a little harder as you progress (on easy mode and even on the harder ones it still gets harder as you continue on throughout the game). I really don't get hooked by this game, and I don't think anyone with much of an attention span will either, it's pretty bad of a story and I wouldn't recommend it.

Depth: 8
I mean, its football. There is a lot to do in a football game. You have 32 teams that you are able to play as and against each other, along with about 128 historic teams that you can play as. That means that there are 4096 games that you can play, which seems like a lot, until you look at Madden 2004. Madden 2004 has roughly 5120 games that you can play as. Still, there are a lot of games that you can play, and all of that. Why didn't this game get a 10? Again, the whole stuff with franchise mode and all of that and how you just don't want to play it. And also, those sections of the game really aren't that huge. This game doesn't have the Super Star mode, which really makes it a lot smaller than Madden 2004. There really isn't a HUGE amount to do in this game, so it won't get a perfect score for depth.

Difficultly: 7
I mean honestly, this game is pretty dang hard. It is hard to do anything, the games are easy on easy mode of course, but once you start to put the game to a harder difficulty, everything just gets crazy. Rookie difficulty is really easy, but when you go just one step up, Pro, the game gets impossible. I really hate how hard this game is, and I really just find it to be pretty stupid.

Overall: 7.5
Overall I guess the game is pretty good. It's football after all, right? But I find that this is really a step backwards in Madden after Madden 2002, which I'll do later. The game just didn't really leave a mark on me, other then a mark saying that I really just don't like this game. The sound was bad with all of the awful songs, the graphics were bad with all of the bad animations and bad details, the game isn't addicting at all, the story is lame, and the game is hard. It just really is a pretty bad game, and one of the worst, if not the worst, Madden games that I have ever played.

Not bad, Bara.

Can I say something more relevant than most people (including myself xD) usually do in reply to a review? Rather than reply generically with "Good work!" or "Change the format like this", I wish to analyze this a bit. Maybe everyone will still love me afterward...and Bara won't shoot me with a cheese gun.

Pros:
-Straight to the point. I cannot stress how much I love that in a review. Great job on that.

-Evaluated, legitimately compared to other similar titles on the same hardware, and backed up conclusions with solid reasoning. Great.

Cons: *hides from the cheese gun*
-Some of the comparisons were a little unfair (but at least you warned us). 2003 should be worse than 2004. Comparing a game to a newer installment doesn't really prove anything about it unless you're pointing out ways it was actually better than the newer one. Otherwise it's kind of like ridiculing a preteen for being weaker than his twenty year old brother.

-Repetitious at times. You hit on some of the same points multiple times (which is okay in some scenarios).

-Vocabulary. This is the big one really. I felt that I read the term "The game" a lot in the review. I would suggest trying to work in more terms to say the same thing. For example: Game can be replaced with Title, entry in the series, or installment (this title improved on the features in the previous installment in the series by adding xyz). Basically consider using more synonyms; that way you say the same thing without sounding reptitious or stale.

Don't take me wrong though, you did good here, and you're improving consistently. I just wanted to help you continue getting even better. I'm tougher on people with more potential.
