The first title in the Star Fox series that ensured that Fox McCloud would be a household staple for years to come and have him featured in several titles and crossovers like the Smash Bros series. Not only that, it has given fans an ability to want more and now Nintendo is giving them more! This could not have happened without this game. Star Fox was released in 1993 and was made by Nintendo EAD using the Super FX chip to try and simulate 3D through a 2D programming engine.

Graphics: 8/10; Firefox did something unique here when it came to graphics, it provided a bunch of different designs and shapes and turned them into a 3D model of a ship, among other enemies. Was it very appealing to look at through every stage? Not really, but it did provide some integral space combat and fluid movement with the controls to let you feel like you are piloting the ship. Space looks like space, and the training mission type area you start at flourishes with the beauty of green and white backgrounds. The bosses are fun to look at, but they are inevitable the same style of fight where you have to shoot the glowing structure. They are still very impressive to look at and take enjoyment in the pleasures that the eyes have given you.

Sound: 8/10; The game enjoys a plethora of different musical environments and has one of the best starting themes in video game history. The very first level, puts you right into the game and it is one of the highest points when it comes to Star Fox. If there was something they did right throughout the series it was the music and the way it envelopes you into the game wholeheartedly. Each stage has a different tune that allows you get into the spirit of hunting various enemies through the skies and hoping to not get hit by a random asteroid you didn't see till the last minute!

Addictiveness: 8/10; How much more fun can you have when you are flying your own ship, shooting down other geometrical shapes from the skies going pew.. Pew.. Pew! With your squad mates helping you every step of the way! The game is built on you playing it, either beating it or dying, and then a few hours, or days later, going back to it and giving it another try. There is no full-fledged linear path you have to take to get to the last boss, in fact there are multiple loops and areas you can go through to set your sights on Andross at the end. So you can always scale how hard of a game you want to play based on what level you want to do, it also involves a lot of skill to master how to get to each stage. This is where the game shines most in my own opinion, because starting off, not every game is the same and you will find little differences every time you pop it into the system and give it a run.

Story: 6/10; The Story is not a big thing in this game, and as such, it is very basic in detail. However, it is more then enough to get the ball rolling into the adventure. Andross fled after being banished from Planet Corneria and now resides in Planet Venom where he has built and gathered an army to try and overthrow Planet Corneria in his own right. Pepper has gotten the first "Airwing" which is the vehicle you pilot and as such, as sent an elite group known as Star Fox to deal with this menace and Fox McCloud has the honor of doing so because he wants to know more about his father which is assumed might have died trying to infiltrate Andross' lair. The story has its own approach to the classic, I'm a bad guy and I'm going to overthrow the entire planet with my ability to make bad guys and turn them on you, and it is fairly descriptive but the story is secondary, even tertiary to the game play and that is why it is an average score.

Depth: 8/10; For a fighter pilot game, this has a lot to offer with little nooks and crannies of goodies in which you have to search for in order to 100% the game. Each stage for the most part has its own boss battle, and its own unique enemy that has a different attack pattern and a different approach to battle.[Though most still have the, please attack here sign that is strapped to their back or other part of body.] Different varying paths keeps the game eventful and fresh to pick up every now and again. It is not a game you pick up for hours on end, but it is a game that you go back to every now and again, and that speaks volumes to the programmers to make this game different from the other games in its genre.

Difficulty: 7/10; The game has a steep learning curve when you first start off, so you are going to die, its just a matter of where and when in the game that you die, and once its game-over for good? You have to go through it all over again. Not only do you have to worry about yourself dying, you have to try and keep your team mates in Peppy, Slippy, and Falco alive as long as possible to properly give you aerial support when times are tough. Now to keep them safe, there will be a time when they need your help from an enemy who has locked onto them, it will be your duty to take them out, and kill them. Once you get a firm handle on the control, and needing to keep everyone alive while also trying to avoid every little thing that's flying out at you, then you will start to get a grip onto the game and it won't be as tough. The bosses can be tough the first time they fight, but each one has its own pattern that will allow you to exploit their predictable pattern and give you the best chance at victory.

Overall: 8.9; Like I said in the earlier opening message, this was the pivotal game that turned Star Fox and Fox McCloud into the franchise it was today, every now and again developers need to take a leap of fate and just hope a game hits the audience and gives them what they need, and even though sometimes they may miss... it's the ones that succeed that you remember the most and watch flourish into the franchise it is today. Star Fox was the first stepping stone on the way to success, and while other variations of the game like Star Fox 64 made several distinct improvements and fixes to the game, we can all still look back and smile knowing that this... this was the first that created it all.
