It's been a while since I made an in depth thread, so I thought I'd talk about Hyrule Warriors.

Now, then, to begin.

Hyrule Warriors is a massive army battle game published by Nintendo, who also gave the Dynasty Warrior's team the job of making this game real. The game was an attempt to make The Legend of Zelda Series more popular in Japan. As well as more interesting for Americans. Something fresh, to challenge a few ideas. In fact, some of the ideas introduced in this game, Miyamoto stated, could possibly return.

And wow.

But, before I get into all that, (probably for another time.) And I have heard good, and bad things about this game. I'd like to talk about the character selection. Now, all you have to do is go to Hyrule Warriors official webpage and look under characters before one can immediately see. . . A few discrepancies. ( http://zelda.com/hyrule-warriors/ For the link to the official site )

For one, Notice the picture that you can click on. What does it say? "Play as your favorite characters" Now, who is it showing on that clickable picture?

That's right, That's Lana, the new character. Not exactly our "favorite one" but hey, it's like it's saying to Zelda fans:

"Play as your favorite characters." But it shows us a new one instead. . . no nostalgia. . . just. . . .completely new.

Now, you might say that I'm nitpicking at this one, and yes, that might be true, but it starts to line up when we look further down the line. Stay with me.

http://zelda.com/hyrule-warriors/characters/

Ah, there we are.

Hmmm. Are any of these characters you remember from the Legend of Zelda games that you DIE to play as on the battle field? I can't speak for everyone, but let's take a look at the character choices. Which ones did you want to play as? Did your favorites make the list?

We have:

- Link (of course!)

- Zelda (yeah!)

- Impa (Time to see her fight!)

- Lana (New character)

- Sheik (goes along with Zelda just like smash)

- Darunia (Sacred Sage, Strategic Strongman)

- Ruto (Links' would be Wife)

Annnddd

- Midna. (Of course, if we're gonna have the Twilight Realm)

No complaints here really. After all, these are all characters who have a reasonable . . . well. . .reason to be here. Darunia for example. Of course. He's the leader of the Gorons. Ruto was the heir to the thrown of the Zora people in OOT.

But, what about. . .

These two.

Agitha

And Fi.

These characters made me upset to appear on the roster. Let's just ask for a moment.

1. Why were these characters chosen?

2. Were you happy with these character choices?

Agitha, was chosen possibly for her "interesting moveset?" I'm certain the same same thing could have been accomplished with other characters. Like (ugh) Tingle OR The Happy Mask Salesmen. (Which I find preferable)

It's just, here's the thing.

WHY?

WHY AGITHA?!

HOW DID SHE EVEN GET IN HERE!?!

She's not a warrior, not popular, and was a minor, geeky girl who collects bugs and stays out of those sorts of affair. A lot of TP fans may remember her, but for the wrong reasons. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they choose this character over others who DOUBTLESSLY were requested instead. But one might have a fair Guess.

Fi I also have a problem with. I know that there are those who would defend her, but I think that putting her in the game ruined the point of who she was, just by looking at several things going on with Skyward Sword.

At the end of Sky Ward Sword, it turns out that Ghirahim is none other Than Demise's sword. Similar to how Fi is the Goddess's Sword. Throughout the game, Fi demonstrates coughhercoughwisdomecoughcoughsuperannoyinglikecoughcough. Err, getting of track here.

But anyways, Fi has the power of wisdom in Skyward Sword.

But Girahem can walk around physically, manifest himself and exemplifies a great deal of power.

And like in so many other Zelda Games, we start to see a pattern. Zelda, or Good uses wisdom. And Gannon, or Evil, uses power.

I think that the point of Skyward Sword was to show how human intervention was the third element. That being courage.

Fi can pretty much only talk and help with activities regarding the collection of knowledge and wisdom. Ghirahim is all around the board though, using massive amounts of power to get done what he wants.

By Taking Fi, and making her a powerful individual, killing enemies on her own, they changed her character and destroyed what she was. Also, Fi was more of a character who I felt was forced on us. Save for Kodji Kondo's excellent composition for the duration of her leave. She was annoying, and ultimately, I would have gone for another small fairy like Tatle.

Fi is overated. Way too overated.

So we have two characters added to the cast, but was it really necessary? Agitha isn't even a fight. Just an NPC about as memorable as Malon, Cremia, or any other important girl from previous Zelda Games. I mean, seriously, if we're going to do Agitha, we could literally do anyone now. But how bout some better choices? May I offer a few?

King of Red Lions (Human form)

King of Ikana

Rarue, (Sage of light!)

Kafie. (His sidequest was a lot better than Agitha's, and you even got to play as him!)

See where I'm going here.

But, one begins to wonder when you begin to look at the full cast. . .

Hmmmmmm. . . . .

Zelda, Impa, Lana, Sheik, Midna, Fi, Agitha, Cia. . . .

Hey!

Why are most of the characters girls? Did the staff pick female character that didn't even make sense rather than listen to fan requests just so that the majority of the cast was female?

It seems like it.

Take Ruto for example.

Not a horrible choice, but she is, one of the most sexualized. And After seeing, well, Cia, it's apparent this game isn't worried about breaking morality in that area.

We have to be honest here and ask ourselves. Did they really pick the characters that Zelda fans wanted?

Or did they just pick out various females to use just because?

On one poll at gamefaqs I found, respectfully, I found that most fans preferred Mikua from Majora's Mask rather than Ruto. And I agree, this adds more variety from different games to the overall cast and keeps things even. The thing is, not a single character from Major'as Mask appeared as playable in this game. Which is kinda sad. ( I know that MM is getting it's own DLC with 2 new characters, but still).

How about Sarah from Ocarina of Time? A lot of people liked her. Or, the King of Ikana, that would be so cool! Maybe Even Odolwa!

Fierce Diety link?

I mean, come one. Between these two, or even three character, (Ruto, Fi, and especially Agitha) I'm certain we could pick a dozen more that were better. Even Zelda's Phantom redesigned like it was for Smash U would have made more sense.

But, it get's better.

Apparently, some of the original artwork for Hyrule Warriors portrayed Link as a female.

Hmmm.

Listening to the fanbase?

More like picking out females just for the sake of having a bunch of girl characters and even sexualizing them. :/

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Sexualized fish you say? 10/10 Best Game    "Like Skyrim only with sexy fish" -IGN (Sorry, but that whole concept is too rediculous to not earn a sarcastic comment. )

Before I really reply, female Link? Really? Wow...Where did you hear that? I gotta learn more about that dumb choice? xD

Anyway, I had most of those same thoughts when I first saw the characters. Link, Zelda, Impa, and Darunia I could realistically see as fighters. I mean, why not? Midna can kinda get away with it, she's kicked butt on her own, and she's on a wolf again. Hatsune Miku Lana was basically the only new character I could excuse, it's a spin off so there's bound to be a newish character to better represent the Dynasty Warriors series right?
But then Fi...I beat Skyward Sword a little before she was announced. Bringing her back made that second to last scene in SS totally pointless! No point in a (slightly emotional) goodbye scene only for her to appear in the next game! I know it's non-canon, but still!
Ruto didn't have any businuess being a fighter. She doesn't do anything! Darunia gets a pass by me because not only is he an implied warrior, but he goes before you to fight the Fire Temple's boss! (Sure he probably died. But that's a whole other conversation) While Ruto just creepily hit on Link, and for a dungeon sat on his head...Well, if you wanna get REAL technical about it you could throw her at enemies to kill them, but that's more your doing than hers.
Agatha's inclusion confirmed they were just scraping the bottom of the barrel. We don't need Rusl, or that guy with the bazooka from Twilight Princess. We need that girl who did the bug sidequest! Yeah! Instead of Groose, Pitpit, or even Tingle, let's have the ONE character who's existence is no longer possible!!!

It was a cool concept, but the characters weren't ideal.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.
