WCW backstage Assault made by the company "Electronic Arts " in the year 2000 for the Sony Playstation.I remember me as a teenager buying this game a year after it came out ,back in 2001 for my playstation for just 20 $ (Good thing i didnt buy it when it was 50 or 60 $ ) and thinking it was going to be an epic game despite the title "backstage Assault" showing that it was pretty obvious there was no wrestling ring in it ,but for some reason ignored it and thought that somewhere in the game ,there was a wrestling ring in it.Unfortunetly there never was a ring in it .I used to think you can unlock a ring or something but this game seems like it's against wrestling games and wanted to take a new way and become a "Street Fighter" type of game of some sort. When i bought this game ,and brong it home and played it a little ,i didnt have much fun with it,i prefered "Smackdown 2 know your role " that i already had and has been the last BEST wrestling game standing for the playstation one.But anywho ,back to WCW .Features lots of WCW former superstars to unlock and to choose from both WCW and Wolfpac such as kevin Nash,Booker -T ,Hollywood Hulk Hogan,Scott Steiner,Stevie Ray,Ric flair David Flair ,Jimmy Hart,Sting.Diamond Dallas Page ,Bill Goldberg ,Sid Vicious.WCW divas from the so called team "Major Guns" such as Dezert Storm ,Stacey keibler and many many more.The character models arent that great,they move kind of stiff,and the moves are difficult to preform ,you'll just have one backstage per level at a time for an arena ,you will hear the crowd during matches but wont see them.(Except for a few looking,standing on top of a semi-truck) also you will get commentary from the WCW commentators "Bobby Heenan" and "Tony Schiavone" as you clash with your opponent to the finish .Grab weapons of any kind that are laying around ,climb certain areas that allows you to preform double axe handles ,rip off sinks in the bathrooms and use it as a weapon ,plenty of characters and backstage areas to unlock,but feels uncompleted ,not just because of the ring,but the entrances are just the superstars real life wcw entrance video's playing from a wcw episode with the theme music but no character model showing up and last about 15 seconds .When playing this game,you feel kind of as if it's a sneek peek at a wrestling game that is under development and not ready to be released since it feels rushed having entrances with no one coming out in video game form ,and having no ring or a referee.This game feels as if you're about to eat a sandwich ,but your sandwich is only two slices of bread ,and nothing in it .WCW could've been an epic decent game if only it had put more work into it ,meaning simpler controls ,more realistic and longer entrances and atleast an option like in "Wrestlemania 19" for the Nintendo Gamecube where you can either play exhibition matches of any kind using the ring at the arena,and have a season mode like that game has."Wrestlemania 19 " had it's season mode that was kind of a beat em up game that took place in only backstage areas and malls ,and no ring levels just like backstage assault .I found WCW mayhem for playstation better than backstage assault,even though WcW mayhem doesnt get many good reviews either but atleast the controls were a little better and had full entrances,different wrestling arenas ,with some backstage areas ,was'nt a perfect game either but did'nt disapoint as much .But in my opinion,the odd thing is that the best WCW game's for the playstation is actually the first WCW game (WCW vs the world) that came out for the sony playstation in the year 1997 and has been one of the only good WcW game's for the playstation despite the awkward controls ,but can be figured out and looks kind of like the wrestling games for Nintendo 64 like "WCW world tour" since it was made by the same company "Aki " and not electronic arts.And also in my opinion "WcW Nitro" which i found fairly decent.You would've thought at the time after four years there would be a better WcW wresting game than WcW vs the world but unfortunetly ,all attempts failed .To top it off ,WcW backstage assault is always worth a try only if you're extremely curious and want to check and find out for yourself.Overall: 4.8 WCW backstage Assault made by the company "Electronic Arts " in the year 2000 for the Sony Playstation.I remember me as a teenager buying this game a year after it came out ,back in 2001 for my playstation for just 20 $ (Good thing i didnt buy it when it was 50 or 60 $ ) and thinking it was going to be an epic game despite the title "backstage Assault" showing that it was pretty obvious there was no wrestling ring in it ,but for some reason ignored it and thought that somewhere in the game ,there was a wrestling ring in it.Unfortunetly there never was a ring in it .I used to think you can unlock a ring or something but this game seems like it's against wrestling games and wanted to take a new way and become a "Street Fighter" type of game of some sort.
