I've been trying to unlock Metal Mario character on Mario Kart 7 150cc Special Cup for weeks and either I just suck at the game or this is really hard to beat. Although I didn't beat it yet here are some tips to help get past this easily. NOTE: playing with a friend might help you, but this is for playing alone.

 DK JUNGLE

Drifting is your best friend in this level since it consists of sharp turns and a shortcut which you'll probably need to drift to get. Getting every item box might be a good idea. This level's AI always seems to time their moves so perfectly that you get hit by a simple green shell. Don't be careless at the sharp turn near the end of the lap because falling off ends in you dropping like a rock down to 5th place. Watch your opponents rank to see what items they have, if they have a blue shell back up to 2nd place before they can throw it  If you have experience with 150cc cups DK Jungle is probably a medium difficulty, but this is just the first course.

ROSALINA'S ICE WORLD

This is where the cup gets tricky. The items by obtained by the AI are mostly bombs, shells, and stars. If you happen to get a bomb never throw it in front of you or in back near a crowd of players. The best choice is to find an open space and then throw the bomb behind yo which should keep you in your rank for about 15 seconds. Near the start there is a ramp that leads to an ice platform, the platform moves around slowly as the race progresses. The first lap it is easy to get onto by rushing to the ramp and pressing R while your on the tip of the ramp. 2nd time you either need a speed item or get a lot of speed off of your drift. 3rd time around is nothing that a simple speed drift can't fix. This course isn't too bad in difficulty either, but just watch out for your opponents items. If you have experience you'll rank between 1st - 3rd place in the end.

BOWSER'S CASTLE

This course is where the cup gets tricky, guardrails are limited and the shortcut drops you to 6th place if you don't time your jump well. Speed items are very common in this course and the only shells you'll see are red shells or green shells. Your opponents can easily get ahead of you with a simple star or mushroom item. Only drift when necessary since there are turns that will throw you off the track, but can be easily passed if you time the drift right. If you get a speed item only use it on paths that are not curved since once again the result is you getting thrown in lava. The difficulty is a bit tricky and the chance of your rank is 1st - 2nd if you're lucky, but 3rd - 6th if you dropped in lava a couple times.

RAINBOW ROAD 7 (That's what I call it)

Rainbow Road 7 shows no mercy whatsoever. Everything is a deathtrap, even some of the items. Even worse this course is broken into sections so you can't memorize it without going through the horrors of Special cup. There also isn't a race battle mode so that means this course is unpredictable. The items could be anything, but the item boxes are actually what you want to avoid since almost all of them are speed items and because Rainbow Road 7 doesn't have guard rails you'll get thrown off into space easily. If you take my advice then never press X. Section 1: This part of the course consists of many sharp turns, but only drift if you're near the edge. There isn't much to this part actually. Section 2: This part is probably the safest part of the level since the paths are always on wide, spread out paths. The final part at the path with holes in it is optional getting to the end of it. Watch out for the chain chomps and the safest choice to avoid them is stay to the right. Section 3: This final part is all determined on which place you're in. You might go up a few ranks if you get the glider panel at the end and after you take some sharp turns at the end you're done with Special Cup 150cc. If you didn't get Metal Mario then look at this again and retry the race, but if you don't get it you can blame me for being an idiot. Hopefully this helped a bit if you are stuck.

Fishsniper3 : That's a pretty good guide, bud! In all of my years of playing Mario Kart, it never occurred to me that the items could vary from track to track. If I were to interject a tip or two, which could be a spoiler I guess, so stop reading if you don't want to hear it NOW...

Okay, you're still here, so I'll interject my tips:
Spoiler:
1.) Time Trials: For those times you want to hone your skills without suffering through the whole Grand Prix, just head over here to get the fastest possible route down, or even to tackle that rogue curve that keeps on killing your awesomeness streak. Race your own ghosts over and over to master the track, or even other ghosts to see what other players out there are doing to get their star spangled profiles.

Spoiler:
2.) Kart stats: You must be comfortable with your car before you can be comfortable on the track. For this particular Grand Prix, I recommend concentrating on Acceleration and Handling. Speed should be something a little extra to throw in there. I won't give any combos here because I think everyone should build the car that is perfect for their style of racing. Oh, and don't be ashamed to concentrate on handling. It helps beginners to get off to a smooth start, and professionals to take corners and drifts with the ultimate precision.

I hope I haven't been irritating with my little tips here... I just like to help any way I can! Well, I guess I'm done here... See ya at the finish line!
