Tama10 :
Honestly I find this game as some kind of abomination to the series as a whole, I mean, it does look fun, and I don't hate, it, after all, (unlike Super Paper Mario) we DID get a real Star Fox game that actually follows the formula even though this one came out.
Sometimes hodgepodging ideas like this can work out well, See Super Mario Bros 2, one of my favorites, and it influences Mario to this very day.
But to answer your question, I don't think that I would care for Sabre as a character, since he wasn't made with Star Fox in mind in the first place, and I already find Krystal annoying. Although romance, if kept within certain boundaries, can be great for developing characters, the situations in which damsels come in distress seem to becoming more and more unoriginal. I'm not saying you can't have a man rescue a princess, that's a classic! However, the idea of Crystal being stuck in. . a. . .well. . . crystal, was taken straight from Ocarina of Time if you ask me, and hey that game actually doesn't make Zelda in distress the entire game!
In the end, I'm not too excited about the game's beta, and wish it had stayed in it's own universe. However I won't hate it, I understand that a company has got to make money, and this wasn't bad for some story telling aspects. (peace in the Lylatt system causing Fox to start to run out of business, and this being 7 years later.)
However, if business was so slow in the Lylat System, why not move outside it? That leave potential for TONS of new characters, planets, and threats. Majora's Mask did that, and yeah, people complained about that game, but no one complained that it didn't take place in Hyrule. Just about other things mainly.
Series like Zelda, Sonic, Even Mario could be epic or at least more creative if Nintendo (and Sega) would let them.
Sadly, major franchises like Star Fox, Sonic Zelda, All of it are mostly out there to make a buck. :/
