Before you begin: Introduction

To start, select your preferred language for Pokemon X and start the game.

Your adventure opens with a familiar chat: the local Pokemon professor, Augustine Sycamore of the Kalos region, explains the world of Pokemon.  You will be prompted to pick your gender and face as well as your name.  After finishing these brief tasks, you can start the journey.

 Vaniville Town and Aquacorde Town

Walk around your room for a bit and take a look at the mirror to change out of your pajamas.  Then, head down the stairs for a short talk with your mom, and proceed outside to speak with your new neighbors who tell you the professor has a task for you.  As you follow your friends up the path to Aquacorde Town, you'll be called to the left to join them at a table.

There, you must pick a nickname they will call you throughout the game.  Right after, your friend shows you 3 Pokemon to choose.  1 of these will be your main starter Pokemon.  Shauna chooses the Pokemon you're strong against, while Calem/Serena chooses your weakness.  Your options are Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie.

You also receive your Pokedex and a letter from Professor Sycamore to give to your mother, so run south back to your house.  Just before you cross the gate, Shauna challenges you to a battle.  She's weak to your starter's type, so use Ember, Vine Whip, or Bubble to take her out.  After winning the battle, make your way back home.  Since your mom is a Pokemon lover as well, she gives you her blessing and a Town Map for your new quest.

Next, head back up to Aquacorde Town, and talk to the guy on the right to get some free Potions.  You can buy some Poke Balls or Potions if needed before you make your way up north.  If you're ready, leave Aquacorde Town and proceed onto Route 2.  When you get there, Calem/Serena shows you how to catch a Pokemon.  She will then give you 10 Poke Balls after her explanation.  Proceed north to battle Youngster Austin before hiking through Santalune Forest.

 Santalune Forest

Upon entering, Shauna runs up to follow you through.  You can walk west for an Antidote or north for a Potion, or rush east straight for the goal.  As you head that way, you'll see your friends leading to the way out.  Run up and they'll split apart as Serena/Calem continues ahead and Shauna finds a Paralyze Heal for you.  Now's a good time to catch a Pokemon or 2 if you haven't already to prepare for the first Gym Battle.  You'll find Pansage, Panpour, and Pansear in the forest, but I reccomend a Pikachu or a Flying Type like Fletchling for the first Gym.  There are 3 trainers to battle here, all with weak fodder Pokemon for leveling.  If you speak with Serena/Calem near the end, they will get you some more Poke Balls.  You and your friends meet up at the exit and walk out together.

 Route 3

On Route 3, you all discuss your plans for the open road on this journey.  Serena/Calem gives everyone some Adventure Rules which outline the beginning basics for any beginner trainer and runs to Santalune City.  After you fight the first 2 trainers, you're quickly passed by a girl in skates.  You can run after her in Santalune City to heal your Pokemon if needed or go south for more battles.  However, if you decide to check out the city first, don't forget to return to beef up your fledgling Pokemon with the 3 other trainers on this route for some extra EXP.

Santalune City

If you haven't already, stop at the Pokemon Center where Tierno will explain what it's all about.  There are a few activities to check out in the city.  Players new to Pokemon might want to stop by the Trainer's School in the center of town to learn about status ailments.  You can also receive 3 X Defense and 3 X Attacks from a well-dressed gentleman there.  Next to the Pokemon Center is a boutique where you can buy a new hat and update your character's look.  Lastly, a hiker on the left of the fountain will trade you a Bunnelby for a Farfetch'd if you've caught one already.  When you think you're ready, go to the Gym and battle the girl in rollerskates to gain entrance.

Rinka gives you your own pair of rollerskates for beating her!  Push the control stick to equip them, and snapping the stick in short directions will give you quick speed bursts.  The skates are slower in tall grass and other such areas, so use the directional pad to return to your regular shoes.  You can go on in or take a detour through Route 22 for some worthwhile conditioning  that your team can take to the Gym Leader or catch yourself a Pokemon to add to it, like Psyduck or Marill, the first encounter with the new Fairy Type.  2 Pokemon with levels 12-15 should be sufficent to earn the Santalune Gym Badge.

 Santalune Gym

Once inside, talk to the man to the right to hear about the Gym, and walk straight ahead to slide down the pole.  Be aware, you will not be able to return outside until you have beaten the Gym Leader.  This Gym is filled entirely with Bug Pokemon, so adjust your team accordingly.  You can only walk on the bright spots on the spider web, so follow the shiny path starting southeast to the first Gym Trainer.  Next, turn west down the path following the dew-covered parts of the web.  When you've cleared the way by beating the other 2 trainers, walk to Viola and start your first Gym Battle.

After defeating Viola and earning a Gym Badge, Viola reveals the exit behind her leading outside, and as you leave, the man at the entrance directs you to Lumiose City to share your prize with the Professor.
