To many, the Metal Gear Solid that was released for the Playstation in 1998 is the beginning of a legend. A new type of video game, that combined many different elements, such as stealth, action, epic boss battles, anime, and spy movies into one coherent, brilliant opus that spawned several equally successful and exciting sequels.  The game's central character, Solid Snake, has become one of the most iconic in the universe of video gaming.
A little backstory on the history of the Metal Gear franchise. The first Metal Gear, simply titled "Metal Gear," was released for computer in 1987. Lacking the money to afford the technology to build a large, over the top blockbuster shooter game that was so popular in that time, Hideo Kiojima and his team were faced with a problem: How to create a game that only allows a maximum of 3 enemies on the screen just as fun and exciting as a game in which you blast away large quantities of enemies at a time. They found their answer in stealth. By creating a game in which face to face combat was difficult, they paved the way for games like Thief, in which you must use stealth and guerrilla tactics in order to defeat enemies.
Metal Gear Solid was the first three dimensional Metal Gear game, and it had a lot of weight on its shoulders. But it pulled it off in an unexpected and fresh way. Play this game and see for yourself.
