Alright this was probably one of those games that made it clear how much potential the 3DS has as system. I love the game but I will warn up front that sadly I still have not beat the game. I think I'm close but one monster keeping kicking my butt so I'm using info from what I have seen so far.

Graphic: 10

Wow! Not only are there some basic video clips but the graphics style is interesting. Now I have always loved the Japanese style thanks to anime but this is slightly different. Many of the scenes are still life with figures of the character speaking show in front of the area around you. Your main character is really one of the few that have a full 3D figure. A few monsters do too. But it's still some of the best art work for this style of game.

Sound: 10

Ok, now this is probably one of a very small handful of games that actually read just about everything that's said. The only things that are not read aloud is your character's name, which is usually left out or they just say friend, and the few other things you have the option of naming. Also the background music is great. Japanese style of course. Even during battles you can hear enemies and your partners speak.

Addictiveness: 8

Now I know what many will say when they see every other area with high marks with this one being low. But the reason for that is more personal then the game's actual enjoyment value. I love the game and I will probably play again eventually but there are parts that I'm not looking forward to doing again. And that lowers my perception of the game. One part, the one I'm stuck at currently, I started at one point and 45 minutes later I finally lose to the guy. Talk about a drawn out battle. He loves to heal making it nearly impossible to win.

Story: 10

This is my favorite part about the game aside from it being read to you. The story can branch in a number of directions based on your decisions. I can see at least two possible out comes. This style of story is hard to analyze if you have not gone through them all. All I know is that because of this there is plenty to explore and there are many demons to see and recruit or create. That can either aid or hinder your journey if you don't have the right group for the job.

Depth: 10

As I mentioned before there are plenty of branches to the story and that makes things difficult because you have to beat so many different kinds of creatures in order to proceed. So this means having a wide range of demons at your disposal will inevitably help in getting through difficult areas. If you can't find the demon then create it with alchemy. And with so many places to explore your chances of finding many different demons is very high. All demons have their own element and can be immune to certain types of attacks making you lose a strike. But if you can hit a weak point it gives you an extra attack.

Difficulty: 10

This game is probably one of the hardest games I have played in a long time that was not a hack or something. It keeps you on your toes and also may make you want to quit on occasion. Some areas are hard because of the layout of the dungeon. Others simply have very hard enemies to beat. Some demon's strategies involve strike hard and no defense which can wipe out low strength allies easy. Others choose to defend more then attack. Those are more annoying then hard. But the worst, at least to me, are the ones that combine offense and defense because usually they don't have high attack unless they hit a weak point and don't overly defend but they LOVE TO HEAL!! The one thing I can't stand is a long drawn out battle. This game has more then it's share of those.

Overall: 9.5

Now judging by my annoyance with many aspects of the game, including healer enemies, I have given a high mark for this game due to it's incredible storyline style and all the other things it has done right. I have found that many of the best games keep us on our toes by annoying us so we want to crush the opposition so badly that we return again and again until we win. And this game does just that. Now if you will excuse me I think I'm going to try and beat that demon now! Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Nice review! This is my favorite 3DS game, and I'm glad you enjoyed it too! Check out Soul Hackers, Devil Survivor: Overclocked, Strange Journey (DS), Devil Survivor 2 (DS), or the upcoming Persona Q for some more MegaTen fun!
