Crayons, Markers, or Colored Pencils?

They all have their benefits of providing memories and what you can use them for.

When you use Crayons, it makes you feel like a 5 year old without a care in the world. If you want to cover up a big area, you can use crayons.
If you use Markers, you think about all the good memories from when you were in Middle School. Depending on how big the markers on, you can get decent detail, or you can fill in a large area
The colored pencils are some of your best High School Memories. I feel that this is the best option for when you trying to provide detail to your piece of art.

What do you prefer to use? I actually prefer to use Colored Pencils. I can stay inside the lines with colored pencils the best, and they also help me provide better detail when I actually have an inspiration to draw something.

This is a tough one for me. Markers are out, it's between crayons and colored pencils. I like crayons because I like the way that they color. I think that they look the best, and they give the drawing a unique look to it. The biggest con of crayons is that they are really messy, and I hate they way that they feel. Especially the really cheap, waxy kind. Colored pencils are more practical than crayons are, but they are not as much fun and they do not produce the same color and texture that crayons do. They are not messy though and it is easier to draw with them. They are also easier to carry around with you, and you dont need to worry about them melting or anything.

In the end though, I think I have to say that crayons are my favorite.

When it comes to drawing, I'm a perfectionist. And the only way to color something in while doing it perfectly is to use nicely sharpened colored pencils. I always hated using markers because the color goes through the paper and its gets on whatever is underneath. That drove me crazy...I don't know why. Crayons for me were way too messy. Its like the kind of wax they use, or whatever crayons are made of...I couldn't really stay inside the lines with crayons either. They definitely were NOT for me. But colored pencils just felt right in my hands. It felt like a normal pencil in my hand, which is the way it should be, even when you're coloring. Definitely colored pencils, in my opinion.

Pencil Crayons, no question about it. It looks so much neater than the other two options, and it's much easier, particularly when it comes to shading.

I've seem to really enjoy Colored Pencils, but if I'm just going for broke on colors, it's always Crayons. My inner child/infant demands it sometimes.

I am surprised at how close this is. I really thought Colored Pencils would be dominating.

I'm not a very good at drawing but from time to time I get the urge to dig up my old pencils. Marker's can be a bit messy to my taste and I don't own crayons, so I always draw with coloring pencils.

I am awful at colouring and out of the three I prefer to use pencils as it doesn't look as bad as when I am using crayons. Never used markers.

I like colored pencis he most. Here is the reason. Crayons leave all of that wax behind, which is really really annoying and I don't like to deal with that. I don't like markers because they lean bleed through.

Pencil crayons, no doubt. They're easy to handle, easy to use, and they don't leave as much residue as crayons or markers.

I prefer to color with markers because I never have to worry about sharpening or breaking them. Sometimes I color with a crayon too hard and I break it and sometimes I can't color with colored pencils because they won't sharpen without the led breaking like a minute later or they won't sharpen at all.

Colored pencils are neat and the colors don't bleed through or have that horrid "mix" thing, so yeah colored pencils are the best, the only issue is that they seem to dull pretty fast.

For me, I prefer to color with colored pencils or with the thin markers (rarely though) I use colored pencils more because they are thinner and it is easier to be more precise and stay in the lines so to speak. Markers bleed through all the time, which is why I always put a sheet of paper in between if I ever use them....and then of course crayons are just thick and it is kind of hard to be precise with them.

Overall, I like colored pencils more, and I don't mind having to sharpen them occasionally if it means getting my work just perfect. In school though, the only thing I bring is colored pencils because that is really all that is required of me. Other than that I don't use any of them in school.

As an artist, I definitely have to go with coloured pencils. I saved up and bought myself some prismacolors and I've been using them quite a bit now. I love the various colours available and how they go on the paper. Sharpening's a bit of a pain, as prisma's seem to be brittle, but I really love them.

I've always hated coloring with markers and always will.  Unlike most people, however, I simply dislike them because the dry out soooo fast.  And I personally can't stand to use a marker that's not letting ink out at full capacity. Even if it seems 5% dry, I just can't do it. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard visually and texturally .  That's the best way I can describe it.  I did used to enjoy outlining all areas with marker and then filling them in with colored pencil, but I've outgrown that.

So my favorite is definitely colored pencils.  ^.^

I find it interesting, thing1, that you equate markers to middle school and colored pencils to high school. I've never heard anyone make that connection before.

Also, like someone said, I do -sometimes- like to colored in crayon because I feel like I can let my inner child out. hehe.  (I even have a couple of giant coloring books.)

I say crayons because they are sort of in the middle.

Markers:

pros:

very bright and colorful.

easy to grip.

cons:

extremely messy having you get them all over yourself.

Only good for 5 minutes until they start to be hard to use and vanish in color quality.

colored pencils:

pros:

easy to keep inside the lines.

can be resharpened.

cons:

not as bright colors and hard to fill in something completely.

Sometimes do not sharpen at all.

crayons:

pros:

easy to grip and have pretty bright colors.

can easily get more of it by ripping off the paper.

most different types of colors.

cons:

Not as easy to fill things in as markers.

So that is my big coloring chart of wisdom.
