Hello everyone, Tyranit here with another Retro Game Review! Today, I have a double review of Pokémon Red/Blue and Fire Red and Leaf Green!
(Red and Blue) Graphics - 7 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's graphics a 7 out of 10 because it has no color, and if you put it into the Game Boy Color, it is either Red or Blue. I do enjoy the Pokémon's sprites in this game though. It is the updated graphics from the Japanese Pokémon Blue. I looked at the sprites for the Japanese Pokémon Red and Green, and I saw the sprites, mainly Mew's, and I was happy we only got the renewed sprites, except for Koffing, because the Japanese Red and Green sprite of him was correct.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Graphics - 8 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's graphics an 8 out of 10 because it does not look as good as Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. It does not look as good as even some of the lesser known games like Mega Man and Bass. The Pokémon's sprites do look very good for the Game Boy Advance's hardware. I also like the shiny Pokémon in this game, as they look well made as well.
(Red and Blue) Sound - 9 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's music a 9 out of 10 because it is very good for the Game Boy. I specifically like the Legendary Battle theme, Gym Leader/ Elite Four Member theme, and the Champion's Theme. I also consider this music better than what the NES or even some of what the SNES could do because it was very good.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Sound - 10 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's sound a 10 out of 10 because it is just all remixes for Pokémon Red and Blue's music, and boy does it sound really good for the Game Boy Advance's sound quality. I enjoy every song in this game, not just the ones that I listed for Red and Blue.
(Red and Blue) Addictiveness and Replay Value - 8 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Addictiveness and Replay Value an 8 out of 10 because just like any other Pokémon game, you can go back and beat the game with other teams, do self-imposed challenges, and do Link Cable Battles, which are very fun when you have a group of friends that are very good at Pokémon.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Addictiveness and Replay Value - 8 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Addictiveness and Replay Value an 8 out of 10 because it is the same thing with Red and Blue, except you can also do Double Battles and Mini Games on Two Island with friends. You also get to use Generation 2 and 3 Pokémon.
(Red and Blue) Story - 5 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Story a 5 out of 10 because it is as simple as get starter from Professor Oak, beat gym leaders, go beat Elite Four and Champion. You do have some Team Rocket mixed in there, but that is a small side plot compare to Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Story - 6 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Story a 6 out of 10 because it is the same as Red and Blue, but adds the Sevii Islands to it, which were originally going to be placed in between the 7th and 8th gyms in Red and Blue, but due to limited space, they were left out, but were included in Fire Red and Leaf Green, which was pretty cool. I never did like them though.
(Red and Blue) Depth - 6 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Depth a 6 out of 10 because it is not that long, only averaging a total 3 hours of play if you don't go after optional stuff like the Legendary Birds, Mewtwo, and completing the Pokedex, which will take another 2 hours if you already have a completed file of whichever version you were not playing.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Depth - 7 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Depth a 7 out of 10 because it only adds the Sevii Islands and the Legendary Beasts to catch. That adds another 1 hour to the game play.
(Red and Blue) Difficulty - Varies - Yet again, a Pokémon game's difficulty depends how high you want it, if you want it very hard, you do a wedlocke, hard is nuzlocke, normal is a normal play through, and easy is with hours of grinding to have a way over leveled team.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Difficulty - Varies - Same thing as Pokémon Red and Blue.
(Red and Blue) Overall - 8.5 - I think this game deserves an 8.5 out of 10 because this game was a great game, but it does lack in story and depth, but this makes sense for this game as the games in the 80s and 90s, even though Final Fantasy had a good story line every time.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Overall - 9 - These games are the same games essentially as Red and Blue, but they are better because of updated graphics, music, more Pokémon, and some more places to go.
This has been another one of Tyranit's Retro Game Reviews! Next time I will be reviewing Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald! Thanks for reading and have a good day!
