I was about to play the Atari arcade version of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom.

I had just started the game and I tried to save it like I do on normal games by hitting F2.  It asked me which state I'd like to save to and I hit the 1 key.  It left the game to a series of test screens (white letters against a black screen).  There are 10-15 different screens for testing stuff and different settings (like number of players and high scores) and I can't get out of those screens.  I've tried hitting every button and all I can do is go through the screens until they start over at the first one.

I closed the game and started again.  But when I start it, it starts on those test screens.  I tried loading my saved state but that just takes me to the first test screen.

I closed Vizzed and tried opening it on another browser but it starts at the test screens and I can't get out of them.

What can I do to get back to the game?

This can be fixed by deleting the configuration file for this game from your RGR Plugin Data folder.

If you're using windows vista or above, you'll find that here:

C:ProgramDataVizzedVizzedRgrPluginUser-421918MAME

The file to delete is indytemp.cfg.

Thank you very much, tRUINE, that worked.

Also, how do I save a game like that?  On a normal game (like an NES game) I just hit "F2".  Sometimes it asks which state you'd like to save to.  That is what it did on this game but when I hit and of the number keys, it takes me to those test screens.

So what can I do to save the game?  What key can I hit for a save state?

Save states aren't officially supported for MAME, sometimes they work and sometimes not.

Another way to exit those test screens is to press F2 again but cancel the save state with Esc key. So if save states do work for this game, that would be the trick.

I'm not sure what you are saying here.  I first got in those test screens by hitting F2 and then 1.  I hit F2 thinking it would save, then when it asked which state, I hit 1.  It did save the state (when I hit F4 it took me back to the first test screen so it was loading to that point).

But when I was in those test screens, I tried hitting all the F keys and esc (and every other key).   The only thing I could do is go to the next test screen and so on until I got back to the first test screen.

What I don't understand about your previous post is you say that I might be able to save if I hit F2 then esc.  I tried doing that but it just takes me to the test screens.  Actually, once I hit the F2 key, it says "select save state" but then whatever key I hit after that, it goes to the screens.

You've already been a lot of help but if you have a second, check it out.  It's the Atari arcade version of ToD.   I'd really like to figure out how to save on this one as there is no continue on it (you can get as many credits as you want but it always starts you over at the very begining).

Anyways, thanks again for the help!

Okay I've tested it just now and the save states do work for this game.

Save the state with F2, then '1' for slot one - this will take you to those test screens. While in the test screens press F2 again, and then Esc. That will take you back to the title screen.

From there press F4 to load the state and then '1' to load it from slot 1. The game will have glitched graphics for a few seconds but if you move the guy around then the graphics will come back.

Okay, I got it now.   I had hit F2 then Esc when in those test screens but didn't think to hit F4 then 1 after that (that would be a lot of random combinations if I didn't know to hit them).

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help with this.  I had been excited about playing this game as I remember it from a long time ago and I was really bummed when I got stuck in those screens.
