First of all, thank you for reading this review and Happy Valentines Day (or Singles Awareness Day) to you! And as my Valentine's Day (or Singles Awareness Day) gift to you all, I'm going to review Pokemon X (and technically Y)! Actually, I was going to review this earlier, but I had quite a lot of things to do (like play Kingdom Hearts, Link Between Worlds, and Ocarina of Time 3D, wait for Pokemon Bank, and complain why Knuckles looks like he's on steroids [UNLIKE SONIC I DON'T CHUCKLE I'D RATHER FLEX MY MUSCLES]. Obviously my priorities are in the wrong places.) Pokemon X and Y were, as you all know, extremely hyped because they are the beginning of Gen VI and are the first in Pokemon games in 3-D (on a Handheld; Pokemon Colosseum was the first 3D Pokemon game)! They were also sorta hated because they were on a new system, the 3DS, which is definitely one of the biggest hurdles in playing it. Being the beginning of a new Generation of Pokemon games, they have quite the shoes to fill. Do Pokemon X and Y succeed in filling the shoes of it's predecessors, Pokemon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2? Graphics: 8 Compared to other games on the 3DS, it's nice to look at, but compared to Gen V, it looks gorgeous. The colors are vibrant and full of life. And, because it has to do with the graphics, Pokemon X, for the first time in a Pokemon game (I think), also has LAG. The game usually lags in either horde battles (you fight 5 low leveled pokemon where you have a higher chance to encounter shinies, as well as a possiblity to have their hidden abilities), a certain camera angle in trainer battles, sometimes in Lumoise City, and whenever the game has the 3D switch turned on. It isn't too bad, as Pokemon is a turn based RPG, and you can really just ignore it. Sound-10! Now, if you saw my SAtS review, I rated its soundtrack a 10 as well. I don't think Pokemon X and Y's soundtrack is as good as SAtS, but for a Pokemon soundtrack, this is freakin' great. Most of the tracks seem to have a smoother feel... The soundtrack seems to go through a variety of music genres, from classical to techno. It also has a resemblance to the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast's soundtrack (Geosenge town sounds like Rusty Ruin) for some reason... Addictiveness- 9 The game never seems to make me shut it off because of literally no grinding due to the Exp. share. If you don't know, the Exp. share went from a held item to a Key item which can be toggled on or off. It also allows all pokemon to receive half of the experience gained from a battle, and all pokemon in battle receive full experience gained. this kept all my Pokemon at a decent level to fight the gym leaders, actually, more than enough, but more on that later. One of the things that made playing Pokemon X/Y for a longer period of time was the increased speed of saving. Usually, saving would take 30 or so seconds. Now, it's literally instant. by the end of the "Now Saving... Don't Turn Off the Power..." saving is already done, so if you needed somewhere and you need to save, then this is much more efficient. Story- 4 The story isn't as involved as Gen V was, but it is still there. Think the story of Gold and Silver except you meet Team Rocket before you fight Chuck Depth- 5 Usually, the first paired games in a generation has bad post game, but I think X and Y at least tried to make post content. But first, battle your rival after you tried the Battle Maison in Kiloude City, or else you won't be able to get the post-game mega evolution stones. Then you can go to Lumiose City to go on a sidequest with a certain someone from a past game, which honestly had more plot than the rest of the game. You can also transfer Pokemon from gen V if you downloaded Pokemon Bank, so there's that if you want to start with different Pokemon if you start a new game (which I plan on doing eventually). Difficulty - 2: Honestly, because the exp. share is now broken, you don't have to grind as much, and you'll actually be over leveled, so it makes the game possibly one of the easiest game in the series. If you're looking for a difficult Pokemon game, I'm sorry to say but that doesn't exist. but for a more difficult game than X and Y, I would go to either Black/White or R/S/E. Conclusion (or anything I want to say that won't exactly fit into other categories) The least satisfying thing in this game is navigating Lumiose City because of Bubzy 3D style turning. Another thing I don't like about this game is the customization. While you can change your clothes, you can't take off your hat and if you play as a boy (like I did; I'M NOT CRAZY!) you don't have as much variety in clothes you can wear. Other than that, I don't have any other problems besides ones that make me sound like a raging Sonic fan complaining about how Sonic is a different shade of blue (or wearing a scarf). Pokemon X/Y are definitely one of the best games in the series with wonderful graphics, beautiful (and varied) music, a large Graphics: 8 Compared to other games on the 3DS, it's nice to look at, but compared to Gen V, it looks gorgeous.
