Well, hey guys, so today, I'll be making a game review about Sonic 2 heroes. To be honest, I already have made game reviews of the 2 other newer versions of this game (sonic classic heroes and sonic classic heroes- rise of the chaotix) but I thought I should go ahead and review all versions of my favorite sonic hack. Anyways, let's get started on this review! 

Intro: So whats this game about?

So, to basically explain this amazing Sonic hack, this is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (I think). What this hack features is Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails the Fox, and Knuckles the Echidna, 3 awesome Sonic characters, all in one game and you can literally play as the all 3 of them at one time in a co-op way. Somewhat similar to sonic heroes for ps2 really, but for the sega genesis with the sonic the hedgehog 2 levels. Now, let's really (try) to delve in to the review!

Gameplay: 10

I really have to say, the gameplay for this sonic 2 hack is purely awesome. Now let's explain why, how it works is that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are all together, you are gonna be one of them and you can switch around these characters to choose whoever you want to be at anytime in the game. So, you play as Sonic for a while, then switch to play as Tails for a while, then switch to play as Knuckles for a while. Very useful and fun, especially if you really like all 3 of the characters. Also, as you guys can probably guess, they of course have all of their original special moves. Knuckles can glide and climb and also, his jump height is the same as Sonic and Tails' jump height which is pretty cool. (Normally, at the original sonic games, Knuckles' jump height was actually a bit lower than Sonic and Tails' jump height but it doesn't seem to apply to this sonic hack!) Tails can of course, as you all know, fly to great heights but not fly forever though since he does tire out after a short while. Also, Tails can actually carry both Sonic and Knuckles, in fact, he can carry the both of them at the same time! As in, Tails can fly and Sonic can grab on to him and Knuckles can also grab onto Sonic! Or vice versa! Which is pretty cool, so if the whole Team needed to go somewhere, they can all go while flying together! But one sad thing though, is that even though Knuckles can glide, I don't think Sonic and Tails can grab onto Knuckles while he is gliding. Though, imagining it can actually be hard but it can be awesome though. And now, what about Sonic? Does he have any special moves? Of course he does! He has the ability to do a double attack (I think thats what it's called) where he does a small flash when you press the jump button while in mid-air and if he has a shield on, then he can actually do a certain special move with a shield on. Like with the original Sonic the hedgehog 2 shield, he does a homing attack! With the original Sonic the hedgehog 3 fire shield, he does that fast fire dash that he usually does in the original game! With the bubble shield, he can bounce as much as he wants in an epic way! And with the electric shield, he can do a double jump! Well, I'm not sure if I mentioned all of the shields but you guys know that it is all of the original shields with Sonic's original special abilities from the original Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Also, one more quite odd thing I would really want to mention is that Sonic moves A LOT faster in this Sonic 2 hack. I mean, he is even faster than his speed in the original games, which is definitely what Sonic is supposed to be like! Tails' and Knuckles' speed is almost about the same but seems a little slightly slower when I play with Knuckles or Tails, but oddly enough, Tails and Knuckles can easily keep up with Sonic's speed when you are playing with him and when he is running in max-speed, which is weird since Tails and Knuckles seems slower when you are playing as them, but still cool because I wouldn't want them to keep getting lost everytime Sonic runs fast. Also, one thing I forgot to mention, normally, in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or 3, when you are playing as Sonic and Tails, Tails usually tends to get lost pretty often but then he comes back after a very short while, however, in this sonic 2 hack, when you would play as one character, the other 2 who are following you actually don't get lost as often. They seem to actually be pretty good at keeping up with you instead of getting lost like an idiot every few seconds. Also, now one more cool thing that the some of us may not notice, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles can do their special abilities almost anytime in mid-air. Well, I know you may be confused now since you already know that they can do their special abilities in mid-air anytime they want but let me explain. Firstly, lets say you are playing Sonic 3 and knuckles and you are currently playing as Knuckles, if you were to fall down without jumping, can you glide? Nope. Sadly. But now, let's say you were playing this Sonic hack and you are Knuckles and you fell down without jumping, can you still glide? Yep! Also, the same applies to both Sonic and Tails for their special moves! I'll say that it is pretty useful because sometimes when I'm half-asleep while playing, while I'm just running with Knuckles, I end up falling down off a platform without jumping, so gliding afterwards can save my life in this sonic hack. lol. Also, you can actually play this co-op game on vizzed perfectly! But, only for 2 players, sadly. Usually, the third player will just end up being a spectator who can only chat. (Also, as for the lag in-game and what not, those are problems for netplay and your internet connection speed and server, has nothing to do with the game itself) Well, thats about it for the gameplay portion in my review!

Graphics: 9

Well, of course. You can pretty much guess it. It's mostly the same from the original Sonic games. The Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles sprites were all taken from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. Also, all the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 zones in this hack looks exactly the same as the original unless I am actually missing something. However, there are still a few unoriginal things in this sonic hack. The first thing that is not original is the title screen. I must really say, the title screen looks very epic. It shows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all standing together heroically ready for their adventure! Though, it does seem more of some original title screen sprites combined together and modified a bit but still, I must say that they did a pretty good job on that title screen. The Second thing is, while you are in game, look at the bottom left corner of the screen, it shows your amount of lives left and your team. It also shows which character you are playing as. (The character in the top is the one you are playing as, if you actually haven't noticed already) Those 3 circles (not sure what they are actually called) that shows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, seems pretty much well done, though, it is something minor but it still counts. Other than that, all other sprites, stuff and graphics are pretty much the same as the original Sonic games. The monitors are pretty much taken from sonic the hedgehog 3 and the zones are pretty much exactly the same like Sonic the hedgehog 2. I always liked how the zones in Sonic the hedgehog 2 looked like anyways, it is very bright and high quality. It is also vivid and pretty clear. Decent graphics in my opinion and an extremely awesome title screen. Which is why I would rate the graphics a 9. Oh yea, and one more thing, there is Amy in sky chase zone and the end of the game. Her sprite is not so bad, I guess. Well, thats about it for the graphics portion in my review.

Sound: 9

You guys can probably already guess, yes, they are exactly the same as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, there is no changes in any sound effects and no changes in the background music either. Anyways, I always thought Sonic the Hedgehog 2's background music as one of the best background music I have ever seen compared to other Sonic games' sound tracks. It is very fitting and it sounds very catchy and well done. It is of nice and high quality for the sega genesis and it is something that someone would want to listen to as a song. Like for example, chemical plant zone, it's background music is very fitting to the environment and it sounds really good. It is serious showing Team Sonic on a real mission and yet very professional and awesome. Well, that is all I can really say about the sound here to be honest. It is the original as Sonic the hedgehog 2 but yet, the original sounds are always great so I would rate it a 9. 

Addictiveness: 10

Oh, I wonder. Let us see, I love Sonic because he is very fast and has a cool variety of moves with different shields. I also love Tails because he can fly anywhere and very controllable in flight and he can carry both sonic and knuckles which is pretty cool and useful. I also love knuckles since he can glide at a decent fast speed and climb as much as he wants without tiring out. Now, let us see, how would it be like to have the whole 3 of them at once with all of their special moves that I always loved? Oh, that is definitely awesome and definitely addicting I must say. Imagine being able to have fun with all of their special moves that are your favorite moves. This is one of my favorite sonic games that I must really play again and again. I am a sonic fan and I always like to play my favorite sonic games often, especially this one. Honestly, that is all I can say for the addictiveness section in my review! 

Story: 7

Well, we all know, it's all the simple and old story, however, I do find some type of twist here though, the real twist is that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will team up together to stop Dr. Eggman. Well, it's not much of a twist but it is pretty cool to see Knuckles join the both of them to help them stop Dr. Eggman in their long journey, though, it is still mostly the same old story based off what I have seen in this game, though, I guess it gets a slightly higher rating than how I would rate the original since it is more interesting and better include Team Sonic on this mission! Thats about it for the story portion in my review. 

Depth: 10

Boy, I must really say, LOTS of depth indeed. In the options menu at the title screen, you can customize your team, you can remove a character, switch them around for defaults... etc. Also, there is sound tests you can do like all other or most Sonic games. Also, I already explained how the switching of the 3 characters in game pretty much work out so there isn't much else to say here, really. Thats about it for the Depth.

Difficulty: 7

Well, it mostly depends on what zone you are playing since some zones are very easy and some are very hard. It kind of starts out easy fro the first 2 zones, then you will notice a slight change in difficulty as you go on. However, things can be a bit easier than the original since you do have all of the advantages of Team Sonic and their special abilities.

OVERALL: 9.3
