So - we begin my strategy guide for Rugrats: Search for Reptar.

I will start by saying that this was one of my favourite games as a child and I look forward to sharing this walkthrough with you all.

Some notes before we begin

Controls:

D-Pad: Moves your Rugrat, Scroll through menus
Start - Pauses / Unpauses Game
Triangle - When near a "Level Trigger" (sparkly object) this begins the level. While you are holding something you can also throw it by pressing this.
Square - Makes your Rugrat walk instead of run
Circle - Pick up / Put Down objects
Cross - Jump, Confirm menu selections.

This game is divided into a multitude of mini-games which can be played in any order.

Note: "Hard" levels will not be playable until you have collected a certain amount of puzzle pieces.

I will also be giving the level guides in the order of Easy, Medium and then Hard. (This includes Bonus Levels)

You start off the game with a cut scene as little Tommy Pickles wishes to play with his Reptar Puzzle, only to find that all but one of the pieces has mysteriously disappeared, causing Tommy to cry, which leads our young hero on a quest to find the missing pieces.

Note: There are more mini games than there are puzzle pieces to find. You need 12 pieces to beat the game. You start off with one of them.

There are two ways of obtaining puzzle pieces, one is obviously by completing minigames, the other is to find and collect 15 Reptar Bars.

Note: In some levels, you will get Reptar Bars instead of puzzle pieces.

Also, in certain levels you will see a bottle of chocolate milk in the lower right, this is your health, if it gets too low, look for cookies to replenish it. If it gets too low, you're baby will start to cry and you will have to start the level over. (From what I remember if you make him / her cry 3 times, you get sent back to the Pickle's Home)

So let's begin this walkthrough

You start of playing as Tommy in the classic playpen, the nearest level to you is actually to the left of the playpen itself.

Level name: Chuckie's Glasses
Level Trigger: Umbrella beside the playpen
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): Chuckie
Aim: Hide and Seek with the Rugrats
Reward(s): A Puzzle Piece

Story: Angelica proposes a game of hide and seek with the other babies and makes Chuckie the seeker, but she takes Chuckie's glasses to make it harder (it's really not.) Simply find each Rugrat and race them back to the playpen, if they beat you, Chuckie will cry. But if you find the other Rugrats and beat all three (Tommy, Phil and Lil). After doing this Angelica will appear looking really ill while wearing Chuckie's glasses and gives them back to him.



Level name: Ice Cream Mountain
Level Trigger: Golf Club Set in Hallway
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): All (Susie is only playable if you choose this minigame in the main menu)
Aim: Score a Par or below on each of the nine holes.
Reward(s): A Puzzle Piece

Story: Not much to be said for this level as it's simply a game of crazy golf with the Rugrats. You cannot choose the Rugrat you play as in the main game although you can do if you choose this game from the main menu.


Level name: Egg Hunt
Level Trigger: Egg Basket in Living Room
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim: Collect 35 Eggs before the time runs out (2 Minutes 50 Seconds)
Reward: Reptar Bars

Story: Tommy finds an egg in the house, but of course, Angelica has to ruin the fun by stealing it, Tommy must now find the golden egg before she does (you can actually get this first if you want, you still need 34 other eggs). After getting all the eggs, Angelica will begin wailing her eyes out meaning that you've won.


Level name: The Mysterious Mr. Friend
Level Trigger: Stu's Inventing Machine in the Basement
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim: Defeat Mr Friend.
Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Tommy accidentally turns on Stu's inventing machine in the basement which releases a new toy called Mr Friend. Tommy must defeat the robots before they attack him! (You have Health for this level and cookies are dotted about the place) Simply throw cans at the Mr Friend dolls to kill them, it should take 2 hits. After beating one of them however, three more appear! Simply do the same as before to defeat the remaining Mr Friends.


Name: Cookie Race
Level Trigger: Cookie box in a room upstrairs
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim: Beat Angelica to the kitchen
Reward: Reptar Bars

Story: Angelica just doesn't know when to give up does she? She finds, no, steals a cookie box Tommy found and smells more being made in the kitchen, she challenges Tommy to race her there to see who gets the cookies.

Note: 5 Cookies are hidden around the house, Collect these to earn bonus Reptar Bars at the end. You must win the race for this. [b/]

1) On the way to the stairs in the hallway (upstairs)
2) On the staircase itself
3) Next to the basement's door
4) Beside coffee table in the living room
5) Next to Spike's kennel in the garden.


Level name: Mirror Land
Level Trigger: Automatically starts after obtaining certain number of Puzzle Pieces, or accessed by mirror in Didi and Stu's bedroom.
Difficulty: Easy
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim: Collect all the balloons to turn the world the right way up again.
Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Didi shows Tommy an antique mirror she purchased from somewhere, while she goes to find more antiques, Tommy accidentally turns the house into Mirror Land! He must find balloons to float up to the mirror and turn the world back to the way it was.

There are 6 Purple Boxes dotted around the level containing a number of balloons, Tommy must find and pop these before the time runs out.

There are 6 coloured balloons to look out for

Blue - Stu and Didi's Room (The level begins here)
Red - Kitchen
Yellow - Bathroom
Green - Living Room
Orange - Grampa's Room
Purple - Basement


Level name: Grampa's Teeth
Level Trigger: False teeth in Bathroom
Difficulty: Medium
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy & Spike
Aim: Retrieve Grampa's Teeth
Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Chuckie, Tommy and Grampa Lou are at a picnic of some kind in a park, when Grampa Lou takes out his false teeth to eat potato salad when Spike runs off with them. Tommy must find Spike to recover Grampa's Teeth before it's too late

This level is divided into four sections. I will explain each in separate paragraphs. [b/]

Stage 1 - Park

Here you can play around on play equipment and gather a couple of Reptar Bars that are dotted around the park. Not really a challenge in the level. Go to the maze's entrance to start Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Maze

This is one of the more interesting levels in the game in my opinion, here you have to go through a maze of hedges whilst avoiding dead ends and geese. Look for cookies if your health is low. After navigating the maze and finding Spike, he will drop the teeth, as Chuckie goes to retrieve them, a goose snatches them and takes Chuckie on a ride!

Stage 3 - Goose Chase

With Tommy riding on Spike's back, you must jump over various obstacles while chasing the wild goose around the park which has Chuckie on it's back. The chase stops once you reach a hockey court.

Stage 4 - Boss: Goose

The goose finally lets Chuckie off of its back, but now is beginning to chase him around the hockey court, luckily Tommy has found some hockey pucks he can use to make the goose go away. But be careful, you may hit Chuckie in the process. The goose requires 5 hits in order to be defeated, also with a time limit. Don't hit Chuckie 4 times or the level will restart.

After beating the goose, it will spit out Grampa's teeth and land on his head much to his confusion. The level is complete now.


Level Name: Circus Angelicus
Level Trigger: Toy Lion in upstairs bathroom
Difficulty: Medium
Playable Rugrat(s): Spike, Phil, Lil and Angelica
Aim: Complete all 3 Circus Activities.
Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Angelica gets the idea to do a circus after Tommy finds a toy lion in his bathroom, she enlists the help of Tommy, Spike, Phil, Lil and Chuckie to make it a circus to never forget.

This level is divided into three parts, once again I will explain each in separate paragraphs.

Stage 1 - Spike the "Furro-cious" Lion

In this stage, Tommy leads Spike around the garden in order to collect bones and jump over hurdles around the place. He must collect all the bones within the time limit in order to win the game.

Stage 2 - The Devilles

This stage has Phil and Lil riding on a tricycle around an obstacle course made of various twists and turns around the garden and the back alley. Angelica wants you to jump off of the ramp and into the bullseye. With good enough timing, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Stage 3 - The Human "Candyball"

The final stage involves Chuckie, Angelica, a see-saw and a pile of leaves. You are given a metre, Press it once to start it going, press it again when the metre is at the leftmost point, press it a final time when it rebounds to the right hand side. If you manage to do this, Chuckie should land safely in the leaves. If you don't, you have to do it again. Fail any of the challenges three times and you have to start from Stage 1 again.


Level Name: Let There Be Light
Level Trigger: Night light in Tommy's room
Difficulty: Medium
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim: Get to the fridge to release the light
Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Stu is working on an invention that could send his career sky-high, but as he hits a key on his keyboard, there is a large blackout. Tommy, who is not fully asleep goes to release the light the only way he knows how.

This level is divided into two stages. I will detail them both in separate paragraphs.

Stage 1 - Getting to the fridge

Armed with a flashlight, Tommy has to make his way downstairs to get to the fridge to release the light, use your flashlight to eliminate any "Shadow Monsters" you see on the way. Keep an eye out for batteries, these will restore the flashlight's power.

Stage 2 - Where's Spike?

Upon getting to the fridge, Tommy finds that he is not strong enough to open the fridge by himself, so he goes to search for Spike (who is in a random place). Don't forget to pick up your flashlight otherwise you'll regret it. Once Spike has been found, you will be automatically sent to the kitchen where a cut scene shows Spike yanking the door open with his leash, the light comes back on. But it turns out Stu had fixed the fuse box.


Level Name: Visitors from Outer Space
Level Trigger: Remote control in Grampa's room
Difficulty: Medium
Playable Rugrat(s): Angelica
Aim: Escape the aliens
Reward: A Puzzle Piece.

Story: Tommy finds a weird remote in his grampa's bedroom. When he goes to sleep that night, he dreams that he has been kidnapped with the other babies and sent to an alien world. The babies see Angelica who beg them for freedom. She does so, but the aliens follow them. Angelica must now escape before it's too late.

This level is another level in separate parts. Two stages, Two paragraphs.

Stage 1 - The spaceship

Angelica is armed with a remote control similar to the one Tommy found earlier, you can use this to zap the aliens that look like TVs, this will momentarily stun them allowing you to pass by them without being damaged. Make your way to the elevator and to a large room full of cages. You will meet a weird talking fish who will tell you a way of getting out.

Stage 2 - The air vents

Angelica, who is able to float now thanks to the weird fish can go up into the air vents. Press Cross to Float higher and Circle to go lower. Simply navigate through the air vent maze until you reach the end. Angelica will see the babies who manage to escape, presumably leaving Angelica alone on the alien planet.


Level Name: Toy Palace
Level Trigger: Thorg Doll
Difficulty: Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy & Chuckie
Aim: Find Tommy & Escape the Toy Shop
Reward: Puzzle Piece

Story: Stu gets the idea to take Tommy and Chuckie to Toy Palace after seeing Tommy playing with his old Thorg doll, once there, Tommy and Chuckie find dolls which look creepily similar to them and place them in the pushchair unbeknownst to Stu who leaves with the two dolls instead of the babies.

This level is another one where it is split into two parts.

Stage 1 - Find Tommy!

Chuckie has been separated from Tommy and must navigate through various aisles of toys such as robots, cowboys and indians, ballpits and more in order to find Tommy who is somewhere in the store.

Stage 2 - Boss: Thorg

Tommy has been found but now he must battle against Thorg, the giant purple King Kong-esque gorilla mascot of Toy Palace. There is a Reptar robot nearby who can help, but the switch is not on. Tommy must collect Reptar toy boxes in order to climb the stairs to flip the switch. After doing so, Thorg will be instantly transported away. Stu finds the babies and mentions he had to bribe a security guard to let him in.


Level Name: 7 Voyages of Cynthia
Level Trigger: Cynthia Doll
Difficulty: Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Spike
Aim - Find Cynthia in the sewers
Reward - A Puzzle Piece

Story: Tommy and Chuckie have made a sailboat and Tommy thinks that Cynthia would be the perfect candidate for the boat's captain. As usual, Chuckie thinks it's an incredibly bad idea due to Angelica possibly finding out. She does and threatens Tommy and Chuckie to find Cynthia! Luckily Spike manages to follow her down the sewer.

Note: Spike has a different health metre to the Rugrats, instead of chocolate milk, he has a bone, also look out for other bones to restore this health when it gets low.

Stage 1 - Sewers

Navigate Spike through various sewer mazes on the journey to find Cynthia, she has to be in there somewhere right? Right, just avoid the brown water and the rats, these will damage Spike and will cause him to lose health. This shouldn't be too difficult as the platforms are rather big.

Stage 2 - Sewage Plant

Time is running out! You must find Cynthia within the allotted time (130 seconds) or she will be lost forever! This isn't too difficult, just avoid the murky water as you did before. From what I remember, Cynthia will be hidden in a random place each time you play this level, so be quick!


Level name: Incident on Aisle 7
Level Trigger - Biscuits on Kitchen floor
Difficulty - Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim - Find Reptar Cereal
Reward - A Puzzle Piece

Story: Grampa Lou catches Tommy eating his favourite Fudgey Dingaling Bars, Stu and Didi mention that it's the fifth box this week! They then get the idea to let Grampa Lou do the shopping every once in a while, he agrees and takes Tommy with him. Tommy sees a poster for Reptar cereal. Distracted, Grampa Lou looks too and doesn't notice Tommy get out of the trolley to find the cereal.

Stage 1 - Exploring the Supermarket

This stage is relatively easy if you know what to do, avoid slippery floors by walking over them by pressing and holding the Square button to walk slowly instead of running. Hop through the fruit and vegetables to get to the bakery.

Stage 2 - Sub Bosses: Larry and Steve

Larry and Steve are two employees in the store who get called by their boss to do the silliest of tasks, but now they have found Tommy! Luckily Tommy has landed in front of a selection of pies to throw at the bumbling store workers. Their health is combined, so you can hit either one of them 5 times to win. The resulting commotion results in lobsters breaking out of the freezer!

Stage 3 - Exploring with... Lobsters?

The lobsters have escaped out of their containers and are running throughout the whole supermarket, avoid them at all costs! Alternatively, you can use cans to slow them down a bit by pressing Circle to pick a can up, and Triangle to roll it at them. You will also come across a soapy area with platforms made out of boxes of toilet roll, use these to get to the next area. After passing through here you will get to the freezer department where eggs and doors will come at you from all angles, Avoid these too!

Stage 4 - Boss: Blue Lobster

By far one of the weirdest bosses in video game history, the Blue Lobster. Use the cans dotted around the place to get rid of the red ones first, then use a can to hit the blue one near the left most part of the conveyor belt. This will give Tommy enough time to climb up the paper towels and hit the switch to send the lobster away for good!

Reward: A Puzzle Piece

Story: Stu is working on an invention that could send his career sky-high, but as he hits a key on his keyboard, there is a large blackout. Tommy, who is not fully asleep goes to release the light the only way he knows how.

This level is divided into two stages. I will detail them both in separate paragraphs.

Stage 1 - Getting to the fridge

Armed with a flashlight, Tommy has to make his way downstairs to get to the fridge to release the light, use your flashlight to eliminate any "Shadow Monsters" you see on the way. Keep an eye out for batteries, these will restore the flashlight's power.

Stage 2 - Where's Spike?

Upon getting to the fridge, Tommy finds that he is not strong enough to open the fridge by himself, so he goes to search for Spike (who is in a random place). Don't forget to pick up your flashlight otherwise you'll regret it. Once Spike has been found, you will be automatically sent to the kitchen where a cut scene shows Spike yanking the door open with his leash, the light comes back on. But it turns out Stu had fixed the fuse box.


Level Name: Visitors from Outer Space
Level Trigger: Remote control in Grampa's room
Difficulty: Medium
Playable Rugrat(s): Angelica
Aim: Escape the aliens
Reward: A Puzzle Piece.

Story: Tommy finds a weird remote in his grampa's bedroom. When he goes to sleep that night, he dreams that he has been kidnapped with the other babies and sent to an alien world. The babies see Angelica who beg them for freedom. She does so, but the aliens follow them. Angelica must now escape before it's too late.

This level is another level in separate parts. Two stages, Two paragraphs.

Stage 1 - The spaceship

Angelica is armed with a remote control similar to the one Tommy found earlier, you can use this to zap the aliens that look like TVs, this will momentarily stun them allowing you to pass by them without being damaged. Make your way to the elevator and to a large room full of cages. You will meet a weird talking fish who will tell you a way of getting out.

Stage 2 - The air vents

Angelica, who is able to float now thanks to the weird fish can go up into the air vents. Press Cross to Float higher and Circle to go lower. Simply navigate through the air vent maze until you reach the end. Angelica will see the babies who manage to escape, presumably leaving Angelica alone on the alien planet.


Level Name: Toy Palace
Level Trigger: Thorg Doll
Difficulty: Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy & Chuckie
Aim: Find Tommy & Escape the Toy Shop
Reward: Puzzle Piece

Story: Stu gets the idea to take Tommy and Chuckie to Toy Palace after seeing Tommy playing with his old Thorg doll, once there, Tommy and Chuckie find dolls which look creepily similar to them and place them in the pushchair unbeknownst to Stu who leaves with the two dolls instead of the babies.

This level is another one where it is split into two parts.

Stage 1 - Find Tommy!

Chuckie has been separated from Tommy and must navigate through various aisles of toys such as robots, cowboys and indians, ballpits and more in order to find Tommy who is somewhere in the store.

Stage 2 - Boss: Thorg

Tommy has been found but now he must battle against Thorg, the giant purple King Kong-esque gorilla mascot of Toy Palace. There is a Reptar robot nearby who can help, but the switch is not on. Tommy must collect Reptar toy boxes in order to climb the stairs to flip the switch. After doing so, Thorg will be instantly transported away. Stu finds the babies and mentions he had to bribe a security guard to let him in.


Level Name: 7 Voyages of Cynthia
Level Trigger: Cynthia Doll
Difficulty: Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Spike
Aim - Find Cynthia in the sewers
Reward - A Puzzle Piece

Story: Tommy and Chuckie have made a sailboat and Tommy thinks that Cynthia would be the perfect candidate for the boat's captain. As usual, Chuckie thinks it's an incredibly bad idea due to Angelica possibly finding out. She does and threatens Tommy and Chuckie to find Cynthia! Luckily Spike manages to follow her down the sewer.

Note: Spike has a different health metre to the Rugrats, instead of chocolate milk, he has a bone, also look out for other bones to restore this health when it gets low.

Stage 1 - Sewers

Navigate Spike through various sewer mazes on the journey to find Cynthia, she has to be in there somewhere right? Right, just avoid the brown water and the rats, these will damage Spike and will cause him to lose health. This shouldn't be too difficult as the platforms are rather big.

Stage 2 - Sewage Plant

Time is running out! You must find Cynthia within the allotted time (130 seconds) or she will be lost forever! This isn't too difficult, just avoid the murky water as you did before. From what I remember, Cynthia will be hidden in a random place each time you play this level, so be quick!


Level name: Incident on Aisle 7
Level Trigger - Biscuits on Kitchen floor
Difficulty - Hard
Playable Rugrat(s): Tommy
Aim - Find Reptar Cereal
Reward - A Puzzle Piece

Story: Grampa Lou catches Tommy eating his favourite Fudgey Dingaling Bars, Stu and Didi mention that it's the fifth box this week! They then get the idea to let Grampa Lou do the shopping every once in a while, he agrees and takes Tommy with him. Tommy sees a poster for Reptar cereal. Distracted, Grampa Lou looks too and doesn't notice Tommy get out of the trolley to find the cereal.

Stage 1 - Exploring the Supermarket

This stage is relatively easy if you know what to do, avoid slippery floors by walking over them by pressing and holding the Square button to walk slowly instead of running. Hop through the fruit and vegetables to get to the bakery.

Stage 2 - Sub Bosses: Larry and Steve

Larry and Steve are two employees in the store who get called by their boss to do the silliest of tasks, but now they have found Tommy! Luckily Tommy has landed in front of a selection of pies to throw at the bumbling store workers. Their health is combined, so you can hit either one of them 5 times to win. The resulting commotion results in lobsters breaking out of the freezer!

Stage 3 - Exploring with... Lobsters?

The lobsters have escaped out of their containers and are running throughout the whole supermarket, avoid them at all costs! Alternatively, you can use cans to slow them down a bit by pressing Circle to pick a can up, and Triangle to roll it at them. You will also come across a soapy area with platforms made out of boxes of toilet roll, use these to get to the next area. After passing through here you will get to the freezer department where eggs and doors will come at you from all angles, Avoid these too!

Stage 4 - Boss: Blue Lobster

By far one of the weirdest bosses in video game history, the Blue Lobster. Use the cans dotted around the place to get rid of the red ones first, then use a can to hit the blue one near the left most part of the conveyor belt. This will give Tommy enough time to climb up the paper towels and hit the switch to send the lobster away for good!
