Hello all of you gamers and arcade loving people in the world. My name is Vizzfan23 and this is my NFL Blitz 2001 review. This is my very first review on the forum so please give me lots of feedback and maybe suggest the next game I should review. So without further ado lets get this review underway.

Imagine you go to your local gaming store back in the glorious days of the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Genies and your looking for a fun arcade style game where any thing goes and is just out of the ordinary. Well this is that game. If you are the type of football fan that likes a realistic kind of football game this is not for you. In this game there is no penalties, no refs, no rules just hard hitting football with big hits and lots of flying football gear.

Now with a game like this you do expect great graphics I'm I right? Well with this game you will not be disappointed. The logos of the teams do look like their real life counterparts and the stadiums are very good but there is some down falls. The players look a bit rough and the ball looks kind of lopsided but it really doesn't affect the fun of this game. Compared to other sports games on the System like NBA Jam the character models are way more advanced then any models ever seen on the system before (except for Super Mario 64). So with the advancements it brings but of the graphical issues I would give the graphics a decent 7 out of 10 rating

Now that we talked about the way the game looks, let go on to the sounds that will be pumping out of your computer speakers. With the experience I had with this game the sounds where very good for a game in this gene it could have been a little bit better with the Nintendo 64's build. Super Mario and all of the Techmo games use sounds that sound really clear while the sound from Blitz are kinda muffled it is still very easy to under stand the sounds of the tackles and other moves. The sound on this game was good it just didn't live up to the 64's sound system. So I give the Sound a nice 8 out of 10 rating.

Even with this games decent graphics and nice sound you would think they would find a way to keep you playing it right? You might want to guess again, my friend. Even a game that allows you to play game of football where you can do almost anything that is illegal in the real game there really isn't that much to do. There are 4 modes inside this game which are Arcade,Season,Mini games and Playoffs. The arcade mode is for the gamer that just wants to play a quick game of Blitz or that maybe wants to learn all of the controls. Next you have your Season and Playoff modes which are the modes that allow the gamer to play a set season of games and then it lets you try and win the Super Bowl if you can make the playoffs. I really think the Season and playoff modes are the main "story" of the game but I will get into that later but for now let's talk about the Mini Game mode. In this mode you can choose from a set of 3 mini games which will test your ability to score touchdowns. In First and Goal Frenzy you will be pitted against a defense from 10 yards away from the touchdown and have to try to score in 4 plays. The other 2 mini games follow a pretty close resemblance except they focus on different ways to do it. So even with the fun mini games this game will grow old in about 4-5 weeks which is a decent time span compared to other games of the time so I must give the addictiveness a average 5 out of 10 rating.

Finally the final three categories that almost every game has which is a Difficulty, a story, and a depth which shows how big a game is. First lets start with the difficulty of this game. Depending on you level of experience with sports games this game could be very easy or very difficult but the AI is very easy to trick it is just that the controls of the game give the AI a better chance of winning a game then they should have. Even if you do not have any experience in the sports genre the difficulty of this game gets a 5 out of 10.

Now for the next part of my review. We will talk about the story and the depth of the game. I only put these two categories together because if a game was a good depth it usually has a good story mode. Well in this game both of these things are very bad ! The story is just playing the, season over and over again with the games played may be change year to year while the depth is very small because of the lack of different weather and changing of the field as the game is played. These categories deserve their ratings of a 1 out of 10 and 2 out of 10 respectively.

Now that we have talked about everything that makes this game the game that it was released as lets give it a final overall rating. To me the good graphics and sounds really help the games different modes but even these couldn't help the short story and the lack of depth in this game.So with all of that in mind I give this game a nice 7.8 out of 10 overall. This game is a good game to play if you like arcade style games but if you like games for their story this game will not be for you.

Well thank you for reading my very long first review and If you know any other games I should review leave a comment below.

This is excellent for a first review. You broke it down well, and explained the game well also. I disagree with some of the ratings personally, but a review is about communicating your own opinions of the game, not someone else's, or the popular opinions of it. That said, this is good work, and I hope we see you writing more reviews.
