Here is the strategy guide for Theme Park of the Sega Genesis. It is a business-like game designed to brush up on one's marketing skills. As the name suggests, you have the ability to build and control your own theme park, though you won't be able to control a visitors opinions, demonstrated by what they are thinking.

Contents

1. Start
2. The World Map
3. The Park
4. End of the Year Awards
5. Negotiations
6. Auction Your Park
7. Set-up in New Country
8. Bankruptcy
9. Adviser

1. Start

I suppose like everything else in life, you have to start up something from somewhere, and this game is no exception. Setting up a new Theme Park is easy, as all you must do is Enter the name, the difficulty of the start level and the happiness of the park visitors. Not much else you can do here, really, so press the tick to advance to the next phase.

2 . The World Map

Here we have a map of the world (yay) and everything within its perimeter. As you can see, you can pretty much build a park anywhere, even the likes of Greenland and the Antarctica. However, to get access into those countries, as in essentially earn planning permission to build in a country, you must pay a price. Some are more expensive than others, so the ones that are higher priced will have, for instance, a lower inflation or interest rate. These two statistics can affect cost of rides, shops etc. The poorer countries, such as those in Africa, will tend to have much higher rates. There can be other statistics, such as populations (local, medium and long) and weather/terrain, that may affect certain aspects of how populated a park will be or how the ground will look (not all will be green grass).
I'm telling you all this, but I'd be as well saving it all for later, as at the moment, the only country you can afford to purchase is the United Kingdom, which will cost nothing (what?). As there are no other options, here is where you must start, with terrain appearing in the form of green grass.

3. The Park

Now that you have purchased your first park, You mow have to decide what should go into a plot of empty land. Here you can control the speed at which time travels, but for now the speed should be slow and the main gates closed , something else you control, its all for you. Visitors have to know how to get around and enjoy your facilities that you set out for them, as they won't walk on the grass. Some grey pathway is available, click the start button and click on the one child icon at the top left of the menu. You will then be able to lay pathway at your leisure.
Visitors now have a way of moving around, but at what speed. The very first shop you should be placing down is the Coffee shop, as caffeine will make a child move quicker. Make sure this is near the main gates, as several will pop in and go for a drink. On the main shop menu, by pressing start on Coffee shop then the question mark, make sure that sale price is higher than stock price, and that caffeine is set to maximum. That is essentially the easiest way to earn quick money. When you do lay down other park rides, shops etc., be sure to lay down a few more Coffee shops. Next is the Ice Cream Shop, and place this near the Coffee Shop. A high quantity of sugar will have the visitors coming back for more. You may also build the Balloon Shop nearby as well.
Now for the rides, and rides not only have to look exciting, but reliability has to be good too. You have four to begin with, and possibly the first two to lay down will be the Ghost house and the Tree house. Both rides are pretty reliable and the Ghost ride is more exciting. Place those near the main gates next to the coffee shop. Be sure to position the entrances and the stairs efficiently, Why? Because with the entrance, you must lay down different pathway that will form as the queue for the ride. Make sure the queue is not big, as not many at a time will use the ride. As for the ride itself, leave the ride features untouched.
Some toilets will have to be placed down for visitors to use. For now, you only have the outhouse. Be sure to place a few, but not a lot, around the coffee shop. Some more toilets will have to be built as the park grows.
Staff won't be a huge deal, as not many will be required to begin with. For now, only a handyman should be placed down. Placing down entertainers won't make sense until your park grows and you have more money. Mechanics should only be placed down if a ride has smoke coming out of it, and fired once a ride has been repaired, so check your rides regularly. Guards should only be used for when you hear a motorbike sound, as a thug is about to enter the park. Though the park gets busy, no visitor falls or gets injured (wish our world was lie that), and they too must be fired when there is no danger. Basically, mechanics and guards should be employed for those and only those circumstances. The punishments seem excessive but its a good way to save money, and better yet, those sacked staff won't even sue you.
So now you're all set to open up. Visitors will be itching to get in, and once in, they will line-up for rides, buy food/drink or just walk around.
There isn't much to begin with, but you can research some new rides, shops and features if you wish. Building stuff that costs a lot in your park will increase the park worth, and allow you to raise the ticket price a visitor must pay for access. All in all you can earn money by doing all this. What you must look out for is your overall balance, as research can cost a bit, so you can't do it all at once. If you are having money problems, be sure to take out a loan.

4. End of  the Year Awards

After the 31 December of every year, you will then be sent to the end of the year awards board, where you ma receive rewards in the form of money if you have done very well in that department. A gold ribbon is worth $10,000, whilst a blue ribbon is worth $5,000. Everything else is worth nothing.

 5. Negotiations

Once each year, you will be in a room with a union representative and will be discussing certain raises or cuts. The topics up for discussion here are staff and goods, so it could lead to a staff pay raise or the stock price in a shop being raised. The trick here is to not to go fast, but to take it as slow as possible. Try getting near the representatives hand without touching it. Pulling it backwards will force the man to lower his demands. You must reach an agreement before all biscuit's on the table plate are eaten, or next time, the demands percentage rises by 10% percent.

6. Auction your Park

At the end of every year, if your park is worthy enough, you may have the chance to place your theme park up for auction. Should this arise, it will be up to your competitors to fight it out and offer you the highest price for your park. There will be approximately 15-20 seconds for the price t be set. If there are no takers, you return to the park screen. You may exit early, but let it go on until the last few seconds for the best possible offer. Once the offer has been decided, that person will now take up full ownership of your park. You will return to the World Map with more money from the auction.

7. Set-up in New Country

Now that you have sold your park, you must now find a location for your next park. Please note that for every blue dot that appears, that is a park sold by you to someone else, and so you cannot return there. Red dots will indicate you cannot afford that country and gold dots indicate that the country price is within your range. Try to find a park that is less costly, higher in population and doesn't show a higher interest of inflation rate. That, of course, is far easier said than done, so look though the statistics of that country before you make your final decision.

8. Bankruptcy

Like in the real world, you have to be able to show that you can work within your budget, as overspending straight away could lead to damaging consequences right away. If your overall balance is in the minus zone for a very long time, you will be served with a bankruptcy warning, urging you to get out of red. If you cannot find a way to get back into the back before the current year is out, your park is declared bankrupt. Essentially that means following all of the above to stay away from bankruptcy, as little money will mean sharp staff redundancies and increased shop prices.

9. Adviser

The little man who will appear at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. He will offer you tips and secrets as you continue to build your theme park. Taking his word for it is suggested, but not essential. If he mentions anything about ticket prices, that is when you really have to pay attention. The only other thing he will suggest will be shop prices either lowered/raised. He can appear different at times, such as wearing sunglasses on warmer climates, or a Santa hat when it is Christmas.
