Since I love making reviews, and also it's VCS season, I decided to make a review for a game that has top notch hacking. This ROM Hack of Super Mario World is created by Viper. This specific hack is not his first. He's obviously done VIP 1, VIP 2, VIP 3, and what I am reviewing...VIP 4. In this review, you'll obviously see ratings for Story, Graphics, Sound, etc. So now one more thing to say, enjoy the following content!

Story: 7/10

On to the story of VIP 4. The story is the same as any Mario Bros game, but with a twist. This is going to be briefly weird, so listen up. Another peaceful day in the, let's hope this is right, the Mushroom Kingdom. A character named Boon is the main hero of the land. But suddenly, his friend, a little girl gets kidnapped by a cat that rides Bowser's clown propeller thing (Possibly a long, self explanatory article about it on the Mario Wiki). It is now decreed that Boon must save his friend from the cat and his minions going through obstacles to reach the final battle. Will he do it? You must control Boon through extreme levels to get him to his friend (Not girlfriend this time. Marrying a little girl would be folly).

Graphics: 9/10

You probably noticed that I rated the graphics high. This ROM Hack created by Viper is no ordinary Super Mario World Hack with just level change and no textures changed. The textures in this ROM are unreal. As you can see in the images for the game above this review that shows the ratings I gave this game, you see a level with a Yoshi's Island twist. The enemies in this game have been re-textured as whole new enemies. There's lots of levels with sprites from other games like Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. The main character has obviously been re-textured. He basically just has a cat face, and his animations are different. So, big graphical change in this ROM Hack. It took Viper a long time to complete this hack with all the new textures added.

Sound: 7/10

Since the audio in this game is no different than the original Super Mario World, I'll just explain that audio for those who have not played that game (The rare species on Vizzed that has not played one of the best rated Mario games from the 20th century Nintendo era. By the way, I rated this category a bit low because for an awesome hack with lots of depth, it has unoriginal sound. Jumping on a spring board will make a spring sound effect. The sound effect of jumping is hard to explain. Wait...no, no, NO, NO! I'm wasting my time talking about sound....just...play the original Super Mario World.

Ability of replay: 8/10

This game offers a lot of depth, which will all be explained in the next category, so this game is very addicting to play, and this ROM is fun to replay. You never get bored! There's no escape! Maybe the difficulty can jeopardize this a bit, but this ROM has fun levels to play through and to explore the world of VIP 4.  There's really not much to say. Let's just pretend this category is linked to depth. But this game is very addicting for all video game players out there.

Depth: 10/10

Ah, the category that takes the longest to type in all my reviews...depth. And that's because I like reviewing games that offer a lot within it's gameplay. I'll start with describing most of the textures Viper has added. Goombas now look like old men. You can throw them, obviously. Koopas are basically white round circles, and the shells look a bit like nets. The Chuck football players are cats...the villain is a cat, so are the most annoying enemy in the Super Mario World levels. Let's get on to the power-ups. Mushrooms are now cherries. Case in point, this ROM is in fact Japanese, so the Fire Flower just has to be tofu with green Japanese writing on the front (The text in this game is in Japanese, just to let you guys know). These are basically the only two re-textured power-ups in the whole game. The Rex dinosaurs featured in the first level are the koopas without shells with two long legs. But this is all I will share, so you will have to play the game yourself to see all the new textures. But here's one major thing that gets me stoked about this hack. Like the Yoshi's Island level, there is a Donkey Kong Country level which is the last level of this game. What's mind blowing about it is that there's actual mechanics exclusive from Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The Yoshi's Island level also has mechanics from Yoshi's Island. This must have taken a lot of working on to develop.  I do believe that this hack offers one more world, the maps are different, and there is more levels in each world, also two of the worlds are original. They were never seen in any Mario game. But that's just two of them. Some of the blocks have been re-textured like the yellow blocks from the switch palace, some levels in this ROM require abusing glitches like the double grab glitch in Super Mario World. In fact, the first level does, unless you're a speed king at two dimensional side-scrolling platformers. Within this world, there are also new blocks. Some of them are good, some of them are just plain mean, like the switch that takes away the power-up you are using. Viper...I love you. This is so sad that this ROM isn't more popular then it is. *Sniff.* Okay, I may have gone overboard with that one, but who cares? Anyways back to the review. The final boss has been changed. It's not like throwing windup toys at Bowser. No, none of that. This final boss is just dreadful. But I won;t spoil it or anything. Just play the game to find out. And so far, you're probably thinking how I beat the game if this is so challenging. Well you can save state by just going to the menu because since this is a Super Nintendo game, you can just load state and whatnot. Okay, now I think I"m done explaining how much depth this game offers, maybe I should move on to the next category before you get bored while reading this, and you just comment saying, "Great review!" without even going through the whole thing. I mean come on!

Difficulty: 9/10

You could probably expect a 9 or 10 for this rating. This ROM hack isn't as hard as Kaizo Mario World, but oh man, you won't believe this ROM. The levels have an impossible difficulty, it took me forever to complete, you can't even imagine how long to took me to even beat this hack. And yes, I did have to use save states. If you can beat this ROM without save stating, you deserve...well...something that will make you have confident in yourself. Reaching the end of this hack is only reserved for the best Super Mario World players. You'll have to just see why when you play it. But of course you won't spend your time to go into the RGR to play a game that thou read a review for. Nobody does. It's sad too because this game deserves to be on, at least page four of the RGR.

Overall: 8.9/10

This got a few down-ratings...by me, so this is why I only rated this an 8.9. This ROM has top notch hacking by Viper, and I could tell he really wanted to impress whoever played his hacks...and that's what he did. With the great story, depth, and challenging difficulty, this game is born into a masterpiece created by a single man (It could be a women. I personally do not know Viper).
