Sound (7/10): The music in the game can get quite repetitive at times, especially when entering the shopping arcade at Kattleox island. But the voice work is pretty decent, growing up playing the sidescrolling mega man games you very rarely heard a lot of voice work. Here, it is pretty expensive and well done. This makes up for the pretty atrocious music.
Graphics (8/10): It's the first megaman game to be in 3D, and it doesn't disappoint. The blue bomber is looking pretty good in 3D. Not bad graphics wise for a PS1 game. Some areas in the distant are a strain on the eyes, because they're just choppy and blocky, but that's just system limitation. Overall an appealing visual game.
Addictiveness (9/10): The story keeps you going along fairly well, but the real urge to keep you wanting more is the gameplay. The boss battles in the game are just downright fun. Each one is different, and discovering the bosses weak spots may be simple, but it doesn't detract from how fun it is to play. Upgrading your equipment, and eventually getting rocket skates makes it all that much sweeter.
Story (7/10): Story can be a bit predictable. Crash land on an island, they have something we need to get off, so we try to get it and help them along the way. Been there, done that. Wait, did I just describe Star Wars: Phantom Menace? Lucas, you thieving little bastard. Regardless, I digress. The interplay between Megaman and the awesome Tron Bonne are pretty interesting, to say the least.
Depth (7/10): It's short and sweet and not the deepest action adventure rpg out there, but at least it doesn't drag on much longer than it should. It all wraps up in pretty good timing.
Overall (8.5/10): Megaman Legends has RPG elements aplenty, but do not go into this game expecting a Final Fantasy type RPG story. Legends has enough RPG elements to keep the game progressing forward, but not enough to detract from what the game really is: a very good action adventure game. The gameplay is superb, the boss battles are fluid and fun, exploring and digging are rewarding, there is pretty much never a dull moment. It is the start of a superb 3 part series, with Misadventures of Tron Bonne (a sort of spin-off if you will) and the sequel Megaman Legends 2. Play this game, and you will see why there is such a strong demand for a third installment in the series. Damn you capcom, damn you to hell.
