(Game background and review introduction Starting out in the Arcades and released in 1984,  This game is a true one on one fighting classic!, One of the oldest fighting games made to date, but the question remains is it good? let's find out in this review)

Disclaimer: before trying this game, please make sure you have a game pad, and the
reason you should need a game pad for this game, is because of the original arcade cabinet setup, the original arcade cabinet used a 2 style joystick for the main game play, and plus the keyboard won't work all that well, for I have tried playing this game with it,  So make sure you at least have a dual analog game pad, that should work best for this
type of game.

Graphics: This game has a pretty kung fu/dojo like style to the visuals, which I can expect considering this game's title is karate champ. The graphics for this game look pretty decent, considering how old this game is.(Game intro: I really like the game intro, of this game, it's not too bad or boring at all, the first part of the opening sequence, is nothing too special, because It basically just shows two karate guys bouncing over and over again, The 2nd sequence isn't all that bad, it shows one of the characters kicking a lot of stone or big brick things, and it showing off the intro logo, that I actually found pretty nice looking to see, the 3rd part of the intro, Showed off some classic game play footage, That can already give me an aspect of what this game is like, which is a pretty good thing to see, it even shows up mini games like stop the bull and others etc, For some reason, yea the intro sequence isn't too shabby at all, I found it to be very interesting to see and watch for this title)(Characters/sprites The sprites of the game look pretty pixelated and basic and simple for this title, They represent their dojo and master's fairly well, and again considering this game looks pretty darn good for the title, The clothing are nothing to special, the characters have a recognizeable different color suit, so that way,  you can easily tell which player you are, The first character looks normally and well designed, both characters have nice looks,  However The second character, Has a red outfit that matches his weird red eyes, but I guess they just did that, because of some game related problems. Overall sprites look good)(Stages level one, is supposed to be a Gym, According to the game it's self, but It looks like a training dojo, more than it does look like a gym, It basically looks simple and plan to me, the flooring of the background is nothing special, because it's just a plan brown color, There isn't all that much too see and look special at, It's just pleasant looking if I happened to say so myself. The crowd characters in this level happen to look very noticeable from within the background, look kind of like player 1 or a resemblance of the first players character appearance, They still look pretty nicely detailed, and they have a nice clapping animation, either if you win or you're foe wins) (Stage 2 tournament Stage 2 is basically how I can describe it, a Classic stadium, filled with many crowds, The characters fighting there with their normal suits.. Feels and looks kind of weird to me, But as for the stage it's self, Looks pretty cool, with the judge characters being very noticeable, and other besides that, this stage also looks pretty basic. The crowd characters look pretty pixelated and not very well detailed to me, because they are very hard to look at and recognize, they just aren't as very nice looking as the crowd characters on the first stage. Enough said for the stages) (Animation: The main animation of this game, doesn't look all that bad, because it's smooth and a tad bit choppy, but It's good enough were it fits the characters very well, it fits their design nicely,  one animation sequence, that annoyed me, Was the walking animation, you know how it shows the difficulty and what level you are at, The animation right there is pretty boring to watch, I'd rather just have them show the difficulty and stage on screen instead of waiting for 10 or 8 seconds on the walking animation, overall animation is good) Overall I'll hand the graphics a six, for the graphics style of this game

Sound: Now I may have given the graphics a decent rating, but to be fair and honest about the sound quality. The speech of this game, is pretty much at the point, were it can even give you an expression and of how old this game is, The speech sound is really blurry/ compressed sounding,  You just don't exactly get that nice and crystal clear sound that you would get in other games, but again it's still not all that bad. Now The sound variety, Now even though I'd described how blurry the voices sounded, the Sound variety Is actually quite decent, Like you have a good number of sound effects, When you punch, the character gos hiyah, or something like that, They always do some kind of random sound effect, and it does fit with the characters style and animation very well, and I'd certainly enjoy the clapping sound that goes with the clapping animation, that always made me feel good after getting my butt kicked, by the red cpu.(Soundtrack: Starting off with The basic intro theme. The intro theme of this game doesn't sound all that bad, the composition really Kind of reminds or sounds like to me, what developers had used in some 8 bit system games, Moving on, it sounds pretty good, but I feel as if the composition feels just a tad bit off, Just listen to the intro theme, you should understand what I mean. Walking animation theme: Now The theme I don't really get or understand what it's trying to compose, Maybe some kind of kung fu theme or something, In other words.. It sounds very loopy and not so great) Sound rating overall scored a five rating)

Addictiveness: For having a lot of style and game play, and in general being one of those games that are a never ending cycle, I mainly found this classic addicting for the main style and challenge, and for that wonder, here's how the game play of the game differs from others, And why I enjoy it.(Game play: The game play was pretty different from any other fighting game I have played on vizzed, and this game was probably different from other fighters too, and that being because this game play style, Consisted as one of the first fighting games to use a mutilplayer joystick for the main controls of the game, Because one joystick would be for the movement, the 2nd joystick would do all the action commands, such as punch, kick, and other stuff etc. The game works in bracket matches, You start out with a time limit, and you have to gain 2 full points by the end of the round.  The scores mainly determine how you're points goes, Like for example:  you get 100 score from kicking you're opponent , that makes up a half point, If you get at least like a 600 score from an attack, that makes up a full point. 2 half points make up a full point which you will need, If you don't get enough the required points, before the time runs out, The winner of the match will be decided by whoever has the most points at the end of the match, by the judge) Overall I have to give addictiveness rating a seven.

Story: No Story in this game, it's just another fighting/ high score game.. Skipping story rating.

Depth: The depth of this game is gonna be turned on how long you are able to last during against the red foe, and that is because, This game, it's one of those games, that don't really end up being dependable on a storyline, or a set of battles, this game could be played for many hours on end, and you could still keep on going, as long as you don't lose. Depth gets a ten

Difficulty: I've tried so many times, but I just suck, so badly were I keep on constantly losing to the red ai, Now even though I lose a lot, I never get frustrated, because this is just a game with a lot of challenge, that I can dig. Difficulty gets a ten.

Overall this game is not bad, at all overall rating this game gets a 7.5

This review format is not like your other reviews. Very different structure. It means no difference to me, but does this different format have anything to do with tdV? You just talked about things that you don't normally talk about. Some of the categories, though had long description, really seemed like you were trying extremely hard to have something to say (like you were intentionally trying to pick the smallest detail, even if they aren't important to your review) I will say that the category titles are very confusing.

You see what I mean? Animation and walking animation are not only different categories, but also on opposite areas of the review. Sound rating is not located even close to where you talked about sound. Voice sounds really are just another part of sound, but are talked about in another random part. You talked about two different stages of the game, and talked about the intro quite a while AFTER.

Hope I am not sounding attacking or anything. This is just not like you. This is super disorganized, and just went overboard with semi pointless detail that you normally don't do. Why not make reviews how you usually do?

rcarter2 : Actually those are sub categories, I'm not trying to cheat the tdv, or use this for the tdv at any cost, But I Was trying to possibly increase my review length.. I'll go ahead and tweak the sub categories so it will make sense.

SuperCrash64 : Oh, I wasn't accusing of cheating tdv or anything. This wouldn't be cheating. I was just wondering if the sudden decision to structure and format this was had anything to do with tdv. That is why I made sure to say that it didn't matter to me if it was for tdv.

For your subcategories, my advice would be to put them in a way that fits. For example, walking animation should go under animation (which COULD go under graphics since animation is a part of the graphics). Voice should go under sound. Sound ratings should be at the end or beginning on your sound category, not in a completely separate spot.

It's interesting game to play in an arcade back then. I really do enjoy the games of the arcades, and this is a great example.

Well. Interesting. I love how the games that have no story always have super long graphics sections to make up for it. Good job though! Ima play this game now.

SuperCrash64 : Nice review! It was categorized, well worded, it's just what a review needs. Arcade games are, lets say... interesting. Good luck, Super!
