Hmm.  Cool! So I can learn how to hack Pokemon games plus I there is a competition to win 200 dollars! Maybe if I ever have time, I might participate, sounds fun! And hard.

If I have just the patch for the game, instead of the rom, I'll need to know which game the patch is for.

Im in... I would not call my self Veteran or Expert... but I have made a few successful hacks...

While I am WELL into another hack (over 40%) I will put it on hold to make a new one... because I like vizzed...

It will probably be a smaller game, something completable in a day or so of playing... not based on gym leaders if I can help it... idk... itll be neat... 

Davideo7 : I'm not entirely sure, it just feels like you're treading on legal issues. Hopefully you can prove me wrong and we can just have fun with it.

DarthDub : he is in no more legal danger from offering money for hacks as he is allowing people to play games online for free (even more so that he is accpeting donations) without paying royalties to the makers...

this entire site is in violation of SEVERAL copyright laws dealing with sharing games and roms... 

the hackers, accepting money for their work based solely on pokemon are in more danger than him offering the money... 

while the vizzed site could easily be shut down if nintendo (or any other company) decides to complain about their games being freely distributed like they are, the hackers accepting 200$ for their work is FAR too small time for any company to complain.

while I am no lawyer (do your own research please) I have always understood giving roms away to be illegal (weather you own the game or not), and that IS what this site does.

and selling (even by accepting donations from users) is even worse.

this hack is FOR Vizzed... and released on vizzed ONLY?

what happens after the competition when the roms are downloaded and spread accross the MILLION crappy 1 off sites that wanna distribute hacks ... I released my ultra violet version on 4 sites (romhacking.net, pokecommunity, epforums, and here, not counting my personal website) and when i googled it yesterday there were probably 20 sites offering myhack, most gave credit and none claimed credit so i did not mind...but its gonna be a problem if you are wanting to keep them on here ONLY

if the point is attracting people to the site... than just having VIZZED in the name/title screen will do that nomatter where its published... just sayin... it might not be an issue after all... but i just wanted to bring it up... 

This isn't necessarily a rule of the contest, but I'd like to know when you send me files what is changed from the original game so that I'm not just adding random games to the RGR.

can we keep a list (viewable by all) of hacks that have been turned in... and updated when one is turned in.

it would be great for the hackers cause players could read the list then go view the completed hacks... and great for other competitors so they can see how much competition they have... 

Alright! Something I may actually be good at! *rolls up my sleeves* I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone contributes, and I hope that I can get mine done for everyone else to try, too! I've always wanted to make a game, but never had the tools. Perhaps a Pokemon hack is a stepping stone in that direction. Oh, I'm so excited! I'm starting on it right now! And come the end of the contest, I'll be trying all of the hacks, also!

OMG My big break! I have been looking through Whack a Hack before, and download roms from coolroms, me and my friends have been working on it, making our own silly text editing games, David, I think it would take a long time to edit the whole game, and i know you said do whatever you can and post it, but i dont know about repointing stuff, like adding grass then putting pokemon in it, I mean, we can work around the game, but we cant change it completly, and I use files to use the pokemon hacks, like i take a regular Ruby game on my computer, edit it, you know, with the hacking tools and all, and I dont know how exactly I would be able to send those files to people here on vizzed without the whole thing, like without the VGA player that plays the games, or all of the save files etc. If you know what I mean David, and you can help me find a way that i will be able to send the hack, i will devote my time with my friends in making an epic hack, but i dont want to have made the whole hack, then have no way to send it here on Vizzed. So if you could please let me know how, and i will start working hard on it, please let me know in a PM, or a reply here, but preferably a PM if you can, thank you!

Is this contest legitimate - could I get into legal issues by joining and "hacking" ?
I want to know because I am a legitimate computer business owner and although I would love to gain some experience by doing this
....I  would hate for it to be illegal

aba : hacking is not illegal... and distributing hack patches is not illegal.

a patch is a file that can be added to a game that will make all the changes the hacker made... so if i give you my patch it is only my work... a patched rom has the original rom aswell as my work... distributing roms is illegal.

how hacks are generally distributed is, the hacker releases the patch and tells players which original rom they must use the patch on, and player come up with their own rom and patch it their self...

so if you give only a patch to tRIUNE you will be in no legal issues. (ofcourse you need to tell him what game the patch is for)

aba : Also you need to own the game that you want to hack in real life. So if you have pokemon Fire Red, but you want to download a Leaf Green rom that's illegal... If you own Fire Red and download Fire Red that's legal. (I would recommend hacking Fire Red over Leaf Green though. More people will play it)
