Well mario maybe Nintendos face to most gamers but pokemon is more related with them so I would have to say pokemon wins because it is more shown to people than mario is. (Also, Mario could beat many a pokemon and deflect a hyper beam)

I vote Pokemon because I like them more than Mario because they are much more fun, you can raise A LOT of different Pokemon, the Pokemon franchise spawned more than Mario, and I love it's storyline. Mario can't jump over an ice beam/flamethrower/thunderbolt, people.
