Final Fantasy VIII is much different from any other Final Fantasy Game. The controls are different from Final Fantasy VII. In Final Fantasy VIII The X button is to select a command, instead of the Circle button. The Circle button Opens up the Menu, instead of the Triangle button. The Triangle button is The cancel button instead of the X button. Other than the controls, the game is alright, but pretty challenging. If you are up for the challenge then you should definitely play this.

I am going to give the graphics a 10 out of 10. The game was released in 1999 and it looks really nice. The animations also look nice. over the past year I have only been playing older games, so I can't really complain about the graphics in this game.

The sound will also receive a score of 10 out of 10. The music in this game is very catchy and sometimes I hum to it when I am playing, or even when I am not playing it. There are several soundtracks in this game which I really like.

The Addictiveness gets a 5 out of 10. The new battle system is pretty confusing and might make you give up later on and not want to finish this game. If you understand the battle system then you may want to play it over and over again.

The Story will be scored a 6 out of 10.The story is good, but it does not feel like a normal Final Fantasy Game, But some people like that. It really depends on you, but this is just my opinion, so please respect that.

The Depth of this game deserves a 9 out of 10. This was the longest Final Fantasy game at that time and there is a lot to do. There are several ways to challenge yourself.

I am scoring the difficulty a 7 out of 10. Usually for Role Playing Games I would rate the difficulty a 5 out of 10, but not this one, and the main reason is the enemies get stronger as you level up, so level grinding does not help. Instead of MP, you will have to stockpile magic, which makes the battles more time consuming. There is also something called Triple Triad, which is pretty confusing. Another contributor to the difficulty is the complex battle system

Overall this game gets an 8 out of 10. This game is alright, but it doesn't feel like a normal Final Fantasy game to me. If you can handle this game then it will keep you busy, when you don't have anything else to do. If you can handle The enemies leveling up with you and stockpiling magic, then you should play it. This is a good game if you are looking for a challenge, since most Final Fantasy games in the main series are pretty easy. This game is really not that bad and if you want to play it you definitely should try it out.

To me, Final Fantasy VIII is still the best of the series (Final Fantasy 10 comes in close second). I'm disappointed you didn't talk a bit more about the story.

The soundtrack is barely challenged by later games of the series (except for 10). Liberi Fatali still gives me goose bumps, Mod de Chocobo has an interesting 60s-like rythmn and the intro to the very last boss fight theme is rather... intriguing.

Graphics wise, it was light-years of improvement next to Final Fantasy VII. The characters looked human, they actually climb ladders (rather than slithering up) and the magic is well-done.

True, I concede that the draw system is quite tiresome. But there are ways to refine objects and transform them into magic; there are also places on the map where you can draw magic that replenishes quickly. And it's still less tiresome than Final Fantasy II, where you need to lose HP in order to gain them.

This game is quite addicting. Trying to get all those GF, trying to beat the Queen of Cards with this (*&%) random rule and all those other sidequests...

As for the story... it gets really confusing by the 2nd disk. Nevertheless, I found it interesting, despite the main character's... over questioning of himself

mohammedroxx3 : I understand that you like to help give advice on the review forum, but I think you take it overboard. It seems I see you're the first to comment on a lot of reviews, and the majority of them are telling people what not to do. A lot of times, there are nothing wrong with the reviews you give those kinds of constructive criticisms. I think you might have the impression that this site has some Universal format or method to making reviews. I think you should tone down on that and let people review how they want to. The only time those kinds of criticisms should be given is when the user's review is clearly a poor quality review.
