Does anyone know of an effective way to have an RPG like battle system in a Role Playing thread?  I've been thinking about this but I haven't really grasped an effective way of doing this.  Has anyone had any experience with these kinds of things?  

(What I mean by RPG like battle system is levelling up, having hit points, attack power, and all that jazz)

Any ideas of how you go about doing this?

You could do it externally, perhaps posting all this information and then putting it into a calculator. I'm not sure what you could do with battles besides doing it Dungeons and Dragons style(Yes, I am at that level of nerdiness).

tails the fox : Yeah, I was thinking about doing the battling kind of like Dungeons and Dragons with rolling dice.  The owner of the RP would have to do it and it may be possible about running onto trust issue problems with your players.  Although, I don' think that would happen very often.

You can use dice, and then multiply the stats by whatever that would appear on the dice. There's also the RP points, usually based on the creativity and amusement level of the post, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's a strict literate RP. That points then combined with the stats points will affect the next poster's action. A unknown referee is also needed.
