When I play any Vizzed game using the RGR Plugin, which I have always found to be more reliable than any of the alternatives on games for which it is available, the start button and the direction arrows always work; however, the buttons assigned to actions like jump/shoot/enter a level (usually the x and z buttons) do not work. If I press the x or z buttons rapid-fire and count to 30, the button will usually "work" once at some point before I get to 30, but it's not practical to try to play a game where you have to press x rapid-fire for, say, 25 seconds just to jump once.
1. I have had this problem once before, a few weeks ago. Previously I solved the problem by x-ing out of all my tabs and windows for Google Chrome, my preferred browser, and then opening a new window in Chrome and trying again - easy! That was the first thing I tried this time, but this time it had no effect.
2. I tried rebooting my laptop - no effect.
3. I tried clearing my cache and cookies - no effect.
4. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the RGR Plugin - no effect.
5. I tried reconfiguring the controls, changing x and z to q and w, then to o and p - no effect.
6. I tried using the mednafen version - no effect.
7. I tried downloading and running CCleaner - no effect.
8. I tried using Internet Explorer, the only other browser I have on my laptop - no effect.
9. I checked my keyboard configuration in my control panel - the configuration seems to be set to the default settings.
I have tried playing several different games since the problems started - Maniac Mansion, Super Mario World Lost Levels, and Super Mario World Beta off the top of my head.
Does anybody else have any other ideas what's going on or what I could do about it?
Update: I just tried continuing a Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for Gameboy Color game I had previously saved. I started from my save point with Roc's feather set to B (z on my keyboard) and my sword set to A (x on my keyboard). After pressing x and z rapidly for a minute or two, alternating between the two buttons, I eventually got Link to thrust his sword out; however, when I released z, Link neither swung his sword nor pulled it back, he just continued holding his flashing sword out in front of him and stayed facing the same direction whichever way I moved him for about a minute before I minimized the game window. His sword was still held out. I thought that might be a major clue in diagnosing my problem...
