Hello citizens of Vizzed! It's time for another review by yours truly, the great MitsuriZX! This time we are reviewing a game that is pure action! Even the most hardcore fans will find themselves coming back to play this old gem! Contra Operation C! Here we have Luisa and Lucas, who always help-me out!
Luisa : Hi everyone! Lucas : What's up?
Contra is a side-scrolling platformer with a lot of focus on shooting. Initially launched for the arcades, it found it's way into home consoles such as the NES, Genesis and SNES. There are a few other Contra games for the Game Boy, but this one just makes-me happy. It takes the Contra formula of killing hundreds of enemies into portability, so you can play this anywhere and anytime you want!
Luisa : - In the manual, it says Contra is "a title awarded to a superior soldier possessing almost super human drive and ability, while excelling in guerrilla tactics". Lucas : - No kidding, you will really need some skills to beat this game! Try to rack up lots of extra lifes by killing enemies where they re-spawn!
Ok, let's get to the gameplay. You have a jump button and a shoot button. And a pause button! But i don't think anyone ever uses that. You can aim in various directions by using the directionals buttons. By holding down, you will lie down, allowing you to shoot enemies that are small. It may even have other uses, too.
Luisa : - Remember to pick power-ups! Spread Shot is useful for killing lots of enemies at once, Homing Shot almost never misses. Fire Shot is useful for killing tough enemies. Lucas : - If you pick a Spread Shot and then another Spread Shot, you'll get the killer Spread Shot that shoots 5 shots at once!
You have 5 stages to finish. When you start the game, you're taken to the stage select, so you can always start from any stage you want, except stage 5, you can only play that stage by finishing stage 4. Stages are divided into two categories : Side-View and Top-View. Side View is just like Mario, Megaman, Sonic... you can move right and left, and jump. In Top-View, you see your character from above, and you can move him in all directions, however, you can't jump.
Luisa : - Stage 1, 3 and 5 are Side-View stages. Lucas : - If you want to shoot directly down in a Side-View stage, you can always jump, hold down and shoot. That's the only way, buddy.
The graphics are very good for a Gane Boy game. The soundtrack is also amazing, lots of catchy music here. You just don't know how awesome this game is. No matter how much i tell you about it, you should experience it for yourself. Half the fun of the game is to overcome all challenges, the other Half is to enjoy it.
Thanks for reading this review. We know, it's an awesome review, yes. Here, take this secret with you before you go!
Luisa : - On the title screen, press Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, Start quickly to go to the Sound Test. Now you can hear all that awesome soundtrack with ease! Lucas : - I've got nothing to say, this game doesn't has too many secrets. Bah.
