Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side is a great improvement over the first Eternal Champions. The story of the game is greater than most of the fighting games at the time. Each character died before their appointed time, not able to realize their potential for good and are chosen by an extraterrestrial being called The Eternal Champion to fight each other to decide to who is worthy of a second chance at life and to defeat the main villain called the Dark Champion, the evil version of the Eternal Champion.

Another thing about the characters is that they are all from different time periods such as a female assassin from the 90s and a 1920s mobster. There are also secret characters that you can unlock by completing the game, winning a certain number of fights, or winning on a certain difficulty. The games characters each have a unique stage such as the front of a 1920s Chicago theater and the rooftop of a skyscraper in 1990s Japan. The games soundtrack is great and fits the feel of a fighting game.

The game also has Mortal Kombat style fatalities, most more violent than mortal kombat games at the time. There are 4 different kinds of fatalities Overkill, Sudden Deaths, Vendettas, and Cinikills. Overkills and Sudden Deaths consist of the environment killing the opponent and are activated by the player knocking their opponent into a certain part of the arena, an example is the opponent being killed in a mafia drive by or being eaten by a T-rex.Vendettas are when the Dark Champion influences the player to murder their opponent in a violent way. Cinikills are FMVs of the characters being killed by their worst fear. The graphics are great for the consoles of the time. When I had my Sega CD I played this game constantly and am still completely addicted to the game. I was very pleased to see they had the game on this website. My overall opinion of the game is that is a great fighting game that makes Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter look like nothing. I highly recommend this game.

Is it odd that I have the first one, and knew nothing of the fatality type stuff? That said, this is a very informative bit. I remember reading this review back in the day, but I never knew what game it went to. Hey, your review reminded me of a pro one I read, so congrats there.
