Over time it seems many people have forgotten the most important ingredient to a good gaming experience, ThE GOOD GAME.

Im not referring to good graphics, shader effects or high polygon counts or a compelling storyling, im talking about the actual gameplay, the part where you have stuff interact with other stuff then your brain generates FUN.
If i wanted a compelling story i'd read a book, theres only a few million of them already in existance, most of which are written by people who's talents compare to the best video game writers like Coby Bryant's penis to a poliandoubt titmouse.

But lately i've become miffed at the notion that n00bs have negitively influenced the direction of game design f0rever, Congratulations n00bs, you have effectively raised an army of gamer consumer thumbless zombies.
I'd be inclined to look the other way and ignore the thumbless zombie parade but these bunglin pusspots have the audasity to hate on us, the gamers who actually play the game for gameplay and storyline.

Next time you wanna talk about the "n00b effect" you might wanna take the time to post in the right section.

I feel your pain brother, I really do.
Gone are the days when a hard difficulty is hard or requires extra thought.
There are a small amount of companies still trying to fight the good fight for us, but they still have to put out titles to draw the masses for extra cash whilie they work on the good stuff.
Its like Blizzard. They made WoW to get a steady cash flow so they could focus on the more important task of StarCraft2 and Diablo3.
But it only keeps the noobs playing in the meantime with no sign of retreat.
There are several companies you could blame for how things are.

Unfortunatly even though all the jocks, dumbasses, idiots and noobs are playing now, we gamer nerds/geeks always have and will remain their enemy.
Because we're not majority. Because we're smarter. Because we got game.

what you're talking about is true to a certain extent, but your anger is a bit misguided, you should be mad at the casual gamer, not the noob, because that just means they are new to a particular game or genre, take someone like myself i've been gaming since i was 3 years old, but i only got a pc last year, now say i want to play pc games for the first time then i would be a noob on any pc game i play, even the games i've already played on consoles, but i've been a gamer since 3 yrs., now are you gonna blame me for the crappy shovelware that constantly gets released...........no, cause even the noobs know a good game, they're just new to those particular games,but casual gamers know nothing about gaming they just pick the crap that sounds fun, but in reality it's a remake of a remake or it's just plain gimmicky(Wii), so try to be more accurate in who you blame

Actually Reaper, your thinking about "Newbs", there is a difference.
Do you go around leet speaking and dissing games that are too hard?

That is classic definition of a "Noob" while "Newbs" are those that are new to a certain aspect of something but are willing to learn and give things a go

I completely agree... that's why I've been convinced that the best time for gaming was in the 90's are very early 2000's. The SNES and Genesis era and into the early PSX, N64, etc era.

Sometime in that era games started to become commercialized. They became too mainstream and it stopped being an art and turned into a mass production machine. It's really sad.

Oh yeah, the casual gamer certainly is hurting things.
I mean sure like Nintendo are releasing SNES games like CT on the DS to try and appease gamers like us, but its really a band-aid measure and requires little extra work on the companies behalf.

yeah, giving us a good game we've already played isn't cutting it for me.

I want them to put in the time into new games that these older ones got... but not in the graphics departments... in the gameplay and storyline areas. I don't give a crap about graphics. I am currently playing a text-based game.... I don't need graphics... I need storyline.

Games these days are not that great compared to the older games. That's because of the increasing number of casual gamers. And I hate it.

It feels like gamer geeks are being set aside by the gaming companies just because the majority of gamers right now are casual gamers.

Actually, I like playing older games because new games cant give me so much fun and they dont have the magic that can make you really addicted to games, that older games have.

although, most companies only cater to the casual gamer, there are some who make quality games, such as 2K games who made bioshock which has an engrossing story coupled with solid 1st person gameplay and double fine studios with their upcoming release of brutal legend, which i'm hoping keeps the legacy of psychonauts, the gaming industry is sadly going very, very mainstream, but though they are few and far between there are still some great prospects on the horizon, so i'm not giving up on new games any time soon.

my main gripe is mostly with nintendo, who i feel have been alienating their biggest fans over the last couple of generations and tossing us zelda, metroid, and mario to keep us from rioting in the streets , but also it's the hack companies looking to make a quick buck off of the majority of gamers who don't know any better

I know what you mean Reaper, I don't agree with the way Nintendo have gone either.
I don't like their gimmicks, did not like playing Zelda on the Wii (can you say wrist cramps?), don't like Metroid as a FPS.

The only reason that some games are still ok is that they are primarily made by PC game manufacturers, though even they have dropped their game.
Example, Morrowind was a PC game first and was then ported to console, yet because of being designed for PC it felt it belonged.
Fallout 3 on PC on the other hand feels like it was made for a game console and ported to PC as an afterthought.

If that made any sense...

Have I mentioned I don't like FPS on consoles...

metroid became an FPS cause nintendo handed over the game to a texas based dev company, and i'm glad that i played twilight princess on the GC so i don't know about the wrist cramps

as for the cross platform games, when it comes to porting them FPS and 3rd person adventure games are relatively easy cause that's what consoles were mostly made for, but if you try it with a RTS you won't get anywhere the level of control as you would on a pc

and i'm the exact opposite when it comes to playing FPS's

Ahh why do some of the noobs like I said some of the noobs mess things up.

I think we already said, but basically because games were to hard for them and because they are majority and majority rule how things are they get what they want.
That and a short attention span means that games are made quickly and cheaply because the companies know the majority of their users will just exchange the game in 2 weeks.
The games have to be easy otherwise the "casual gamer" will complain about the difficulty and return it the next day.
