-Genre: Shoot'em'up

-Developer and Publisher: Namco/Bandai

-Year: 1994 (arcade) - 2006 (Nintendo DS)

-Players: single/multiplayer (Versus and Co-op)

-In a fistful of words: If You like to shoot everything that moves (or also everything that stands still), this is the right game for You. A wide set of challenges, a great variety of levels, with different skills to test (fast-fire, memory, accuracy, anti-terrorist/ninja simulation...), a gun (or two if You like to challenge friends) and lots of fun!

Introduction:
An icon. When you say Point Blank, the arcade guys of my generation say "Yeah, let's play!". Really, if you never tried this game, this is a good opportunity to become Point Blank addicted. Without the light gun the levels are a bit more difficult, but with a good controller or joystick, no problem! Prepare for a lot of fun.

Plot:
Not available. Seriously, At the end of the 16 beginner or very hard levels, You will find an "ending level" that is about..."fireworks". Otherwise, a sort of story is the one that sees You always saving Dr. Don and Dr. Dan (the two little characters with mustaches) from piranhas, sharks, tanks, etc... This game is based on a frenetic shooting, the plot is simple: shoot or lose (so, no rating for the story, obviously).

Aesthetics:
A cartoon-style game with good graphics and a very nice music and sound system. A full immersion in the 90's, with a bit of 80's too, with the good ol' arcades memories.

Graphics:
The "simulation" levels (versus the terrorists/ninja/far west bandits) are quite realistic, but generally, the cartoon style is the real ruler of the scene. By the way, You'll enjoy different styles for each level. For example, the creepy skeletons shooting is ambiented in a dark graveyard; the puppet matching level in a cute toy shop; the accuracy levels in the country, outdoor. The atmospheres are different and You'll surely find your favourite levels, not only because of the gameplay, but for the graphics too.

Sound:
The background musics are adapted to the level type. So, Accuracy levels have a quiet and relaxing music (sort of new age meditation stuff), the fast-fire levels have frenetic musics, and so on. Of course, the sound works, because every thing that You destroy reacts in different ways and with various sounds. And every time you miss, an odious "Beeep!" will let You know that... Yeah, in this game You'll focus on the screen movements, but with a bit of addictive playing, You will love the musics too.

Gameplay:
Here We go with a bunch of problems. Firstly, the control system isn't even distantly comparable with the light gun, neither with the Nintendo DS pen. So I'm rating difficulty 7, but for someone else it could be an 8 or more. If You use a controller or a joystick, You could fix this problem, but  not at all. And there is a paradox: the accuracy levels are practically toooooo easy, but the simulation, memory and intelligence levels could be too hard, even in easy mode. I don't know if You can find a sort of light gun for computer games, but if You do, TELL US!!!
Ok, now the good things. A good selection of variegated levels (38), added to the fun frenzy of the game is a real game experience booster. You can select four game modality: Practice (four levels) Beginner (sixteen) Expert (sixteen) and Very Hard (sixteen... If You dare! XD ). Of course, it's preferable to play a little bit of practice levels and the to go on with Beginner, Expert, and Very Hard modalities. At the end of every single modality, the game will judge your performance, stating if You can go on with the next levels or if You need more training.
Now, in the great variety of levels, you can find:

-Fast-fire levels (shoot an amount of bullets to destroy a car, or kill a certain number of piranhas, octopuses...)
-Simulation levels (Kill the bad guys, don't hurt innocents)
-Accuracy levels (Shoot a leaf, an apple on Dr. Don or Dan's cute head...)
-Intelligence levels (Fire on number buttons from 1 to 16 in just a few seconds)
-Matching levels (shoot the correct puppet, etc...)
-Memory Levels (just like the normal matching card games)

And with 38 kind of levels, don't forget it. You will find yourself killing ninjas, piranhas, bees, condors, destroying cars, targets, falling barrels, saving the Earth from a meteor shower and so on.
And if You try the multiplayer experience, You will really double the entertainment. You can Co-op or challenge your friends. Player one will be the red - Dr. Don gunfighter, the second player will be the blue - Dr. Dan gunman.

Conclusions:
The perfect Cartoon/Jap shoot'em'up. The godfather of its genre. Playing Point Blank is an offer you can't refuse. Taste the bullet! How can I say? Just play this awesome game!

Nice review but is the game really that hard if you don't have a light gun to pc   I'm just curios because I played many of shooters with the keyboard and mouse other than that good work

Actually it depends. I'm not very trained with the keyboard. But the movements of the pointer in this game are really slow, so You are in trouble when you need precision and a fast reaction. Perhaps You could do better, but I don't. That's why I said difficulty 6-7-8... Try it And thanks for the rating!
