What do you think of MissingNo? Is it a good glitch Pokemon or is it not so good of a glitch?

kopatropa05 : Lets see.  It messes up your hall of fame data, but it can give you unlimited master balls and rare candies. I'm going to say its good. Not to mention its ridiculous strength.

blackvelvety : Believe it or not, that theory isn't true at all. Nintendo claimed in a magazine somewhere that this would happen, but Missingno does not altar the game's memory in any shape or form. The most it can do is glitch up pokemon sprites (which  goes away) and glitch up your PC Hall of Fame (which is permanent). Plus the fact that it duplicates items, which makes it better then it is claimed to be. I have caught many Missingno.s in Pokemon games, and not once has any of my data been changed. I experienced a crash one time, but that was the worst that happened to my game. I don't use the hall of fame often, anyway.

Since I am from this era I will tell you about it.  MissingNo was actually a deleted pokemon from the original games.   Many believe it to be programmed but it is not.  MissingNo was supposed to be the first pokemon in the game that is way it's number is 000.  It is also believed that MissingNo is actually a Kangaskan baby out of the pouch.  Reason.  It evolves into a Kangaskan after leveling up.  I agree with the link below.  It should tell you most of the basic about MissingNo.

Freya : Well, missingno doesn't have to be #000. It can be 152-210, because those files in the pokedex were actually coded in the game, but removed later. The pokemon that take those places are all missingno.  A lot of the removed pokemon were moved to Gold and Silver. Oh, and the Kangaskan theory is a myth. Its just a coding bug that has to do with buffers, its not really anything special (I've done lots of research on it)  But its still pretty frickin cool!

Ok Let's see what I know Missingno was oringanlly a baby kanguskang that was meant to evole into kanguskang which was likely why kanguskang was orinally ment to be a rock type, but is the mother fainted a certain number of times is would be considered "dead" meaning it would evole into cubone hints its dead mother but with a confusing evoltion line for the first game they decided to not do it but there wans't enough time to full delet it so it was moved to 000. while in yellow its apperance and effect differs being indistinted lines and having the many copies of the player move in no certain direction, while in red & blue it glitches the hall of fame for good (but who really checks those?) and makes the 6th item in your slot infinity also Missingno is a "bird" pokemon hinting an early version of flying but it was removed likely for zubat, golbat, and dragonite not being birds. if missingno was transfered to pokemon stadium then its sprite will be the subsitute doll. that's all I know from the top of my head but there's more I just can't fully remeber.

servbot128 : Once again, the kangaskan theory is a myth. Its just a coding bug caused by messed up buffers. Its a result of a pokemon whos code was removed appearing in battle.

metroidhunter72 : *digs through old research papers* Ah here it is.
The MISSINGNO. most commonly encountered during glitches is a Normal/Bird-type Pokémon, whose sprite is a backwards letter "L"-shaped chunk of "fuzz". Bird is a beta type that was left in the game; it functions identically to Normal. The sprite results from the game treating non-graphical data as an image. This form of MISSINGNO. almost always knows Sky Attack and Water Gun; of particular note is the fact that it knows two Water Guns.

Other forms of MISSINGNO. use the fossilized Aerodactyl and Kabutops sprites from the Pewter City museum. The fourth form uses the sprite shown when one encounters a Ghost Pokémon in the Pokemon Tower without having the Silph Scope. These are actually separate glitch Pokémon that share a name; they can be distinguished both by their sprite and by their differing characteristics. "Fuzz" MISSINGNO., for example, uses a fixed moveset, whereas the fossil MISSINGNO.s' moves and stats change depending on the last Pokémon in one's party (among other things). The fossil MISSINGNO.s also tend to turn into RHYDON upon capture, if a player hasn't yet viewed their (empty) Pokédex entries (by, of course, capturing them).
Though they are all distinct, all known MISSINGNO. forms have several properties in common. They all share the Pokédex number 000. Encountering MISSINGNO. will increase the quantity of the sixth item in a player's inventory to above 128. (This is because the bit used to keep track of whether MISSINGNO. has been caught is also part of the byte used to track the quantity of the sixth item in a player's inventory.)

The sprite MISSINGNO.s use in the party screen is composed of random 8-by-8-pixel tiles shown on-screen. This means that it is often composed of chunks of terrain and NPCs. Viewing a MISSINGNO.'s stats screen causes a similar scrambling effect: most, if not all, all in-battle Pokémon and Trainer sprites become scrambled. Viewing the stats of a normal Pokémon fixes the problem. (making it more readable)
