This is by far my favorite SNES game (possibly of all time). In fact I still own the original game with an SNES system and occasionally break it out when the mood strikes.In my opinion this was one of the most unique games in the whole KOEI Historical series. Not only do you get a fascinating dose of history thrown in with the game you also get some excellent game play with pretty decent story lines. Each character in the game has different objectives and a different end game as well.The music is pretty decent…. Considering (though my family often tells me to turn it down after a while. I guess it can get a little grating after a time as it continually loops.) Anyway, it is very playable and offers a unique gaming experience with each character that you play.The main character is Joao Franco, who is an adventurer. (There are three types in the game; Adventurer-Explorer, Merchant-Trader, Privateer-Pirate). Each of the characters has a basic story line tied to their type. The story line in the game advances as you earn experience in that type. For example if you play as Joao, the story line advances as you earn experience as an Adventurer-Explorer.Catalina on the other hand is a Pirate and her story line advances as you earn experience as a Pirate-Privateer. Furthermore, each of the character's story lines intersects the main character that is Joao and also each other creating some interesting and occasionally funny story scenes.This in turn makes for some unique game play since you are under no obligation to play in a specific style; however, end game only occurs when you reach the end of the specific characters story line.  There are also several hidden nuggets in the game as well. One is that there are special items that can only be found in shops when you visit them during a specific time of night. Another is that certain powerful ships will become available only after investing in certain ports like Antwerp or Nagasaki.Overall, I give this game a 9.9 for its addicting nature and good replay ability.
