So let me just start this off by saying Happy Halloween everyone who is reading this, and I hope it is frightful and dreadful for you all. As a special Halloween treat I decided I would review the creepypasta hack of Pokémon fire red entitled Pokémon Creepy Black. For those who have not read the creepypasta simply Google it I'm sure you won't miss it, but a short summery a kid goes around looking for old Pokémon games and finds a strange black Pokémon cartridge that a crazy old man says he can just have (which is his mistake, never take things from strange old men). When he got home and played it strange things happened, he found it was a 'hack' of Pokémon Red Version, or so he thought. In reality it was a possessed game cartridge.

I rated this game 4.5, and you all may wonder well why? Because when I played the game I did a quick run of it mostly to see how well the hacker did to take the story and turn it into a game, and they didn't do amazingly well. First off, it was a Pokémon Red cartridge not fire red then there was the Ghost Pokémon in the story it's Curse attack killed all Pokémon and people with just one hit, in this game there are some Pokémon that it does not affect at all and you never get the option to use it on the player. I think the Curse attack only affects evolved Pokémon, which is kind of screwy at the beginning of the game, I got stuck in a back and forth battle with Brock's Onix because of Wonder Guard and the fact that Curse did nothing to Onix. The story also said that the Ghost said things to the player later in the game which I did not experience, and that you couldn't deposit the Ghost in the computer which I found out that I could.

The graphics were nice considering they were from fire red and I loved the fact that the Pokémon sprites were taken from Red and Blue, so I rated the graphics a 9. I also really enjoyed the music coming from the game, every so often, mostly on routes the Lavender Town theme came on which added sort of an eerie effect especially since it always rained when it did play. So I gave the sound a solid 10, you know you love the music to Pokémon games. Who doesn't?

As far as addiction to the game went, I actually got bored of this hack and it was only because it didn't play out like it was expected too. I rated this a 5, I found it being like playing Pokémon fire red but with a ghost in your party that was only valuable when his attack affected an opponents Pokémon and didn't at all creepy you out. As for story I feel as though I should have left it blank, because most Pokémon games don't exactly have a set story but the hacker I think tried to incorporate the creepypasta into the game but didn't do as well as was expected of him/her. And for that I rated it a 5, and that is for effort. As for how long the game is, I pretty much beat it within an hour or two it is like I said before Pokémon fire red but with a Ghost so if you have already played red you know what you have to do making the game a little easier. Which is why I gave the depth a 7 and the difficulty a 3 because with the Ghost even though it seems to only affect and knock out evolved Pokémon it still made the game too easy. I didn't catch a single Pokémon on my run through of the game and still beat it relatively fast.

Overall, I wouldn't say not to play this game or that this game sucks or anything, but I do think that a lot could have been done to make it better. If you enjoyed the creepypasta then this game may disappoint you, but again it is just like fire red so I guess either way it kind of becomes pointless to play since you can just play fire red instead. However, some people think it is cool to have Ghost as a Pokémon so I guess there is that. I hope that one day the creator of this hack will sit down and read the story and then remake the hack using a red version rom then start to make it just like the creepypasta. I think that will be one awesome game.
