Sonic 2 is one of my all time favorites, and with good reason. This game was probably the reason most people bought a Genesis, it is absolutely amazing. Everything about this game is well made and very fun, now to get into detail.
Graphics: The graphics are very colorful and vibrant, the sprites look goods, and the animation looks great. The game also has 3d-ish special stages, which also looks great. The graphics are not the best I've seen on the Genesis (that would be sonic 3&k) but they are still great and beautiful compared to most games on the system. 9/10
Sound: The soundtrack is very good. Each song fits the levels well, and are very enjoyable to listen to. The sound fx are also great for a 16 bit system. It is considered one of the best sonic soundtracks, and with good reason. 9/10
Gameplay, design, and addictiveness: The game is a very basic 2d platformer, all the buttons do one thing jump, but one thing it does that Nintendon't (sorry, couldn't resist) is the speed. The game has amazing physics that allows the speed to go up, when sonic does something like goes down a slope, sometimes causing him to even fly right off the screen. The game is very fast paced, and most importantly; fun. The design is also fantastic, it has a near perfect balance of platforming and speed, a balance that newer sonic games seem to miss. The team that made this was extremely talented and did a amazing job. This game is fun to play, and you will want to play this way more than once. 10/10
Story: There isn't enough story to rate, it is basically Robotnick turned animals into robots and made a death egg, that is it. na/10
Depth: The game isn't very long, 8 worlds, with 2 stages each (except the last) and a final stage. The game takes a little over 2 hours to beat, but newbies probably won't beat it the first time (without save states anyway), and even if you do beat it, it never seems to get old, I have probably played it more than a hundred times, and I still enjoy playing it, it has some of the best replay value ever. The multiplayer is also pretty fun, not as good as singleplayer though. I can't give it a ten, due to its length, the multiplayer and replay value more than justify a nine. 9/10
Difficulty: The game can be a little tough at first, it gets easier the more you play it. The game stays at a good pace, never spiking in difficulty. The bosses are pretty easy, the levels have a good difficulty. It is a good difficulty level for any type of gamer, even a child can beat it with enough practice, it is never too hard or too easy. 7/10
Overall: This game is one of my favorites, it is extremely fun, and has almost no bad points at all. Everything in this game is amazing, probably the most fun you can have on the Genesis. I know this isn't the average, but I cannot give it anything less. 10/10
A must play
