Just wondering if anyone else on Vizzed plays League of Legends?

League of Legends is a free game to play, and in my opinion , the best free game I've ever played. Finally the quality of a payed for game but a free game!

Go to www.leagueoflegends.com to find out about the game or download it for free if you want to play, if you really want to be nice, put in my league of legends user name for a referral to me (my user name is finrod felgund)

Currently I'm level 21 and doing pretty solid, winning most of my games. If anyone is interested in teaming with me just private message me like I said my LoL user name is finrod felgund, I play on the North American server.

Hmm. That SOUNDS like a good game. I've been told about LoL on a different forum on a different website when you make a little mistake, players start raging at you.

genesis1999 : It is a pretty complex game.

If you ever played the blizzard RTS game Warcraft 3 , League of Legends sort of originated from a fan created map for warcraft 3 named Defense of the Ancients or commonly referred to as DOTA.

For people who have played those games , LoL is right up your alley.

The whole thing kind of blew up into its own video game genre now known as the MOBA's or multiplayer online battle arena.

The earliest version I know of is actually a Starcraft fan created map called Aeon of Strife which was also made for Warcraft 3 but DOTA is what really had this game genre explode in popularity and stand alone games like League of Legends has brought it to one of the most played games currently.

It is hard to get the hang of and anyone who doesn't have previous experience with RTS games like Starcraft , Warcraft, Command and Conquer or games of that sort probably shouldn't play it.

I got League of Legends so I could play with a friend. It's rather fun and worth playing if you don't mind experienced players out playing you in the beginning. (I believe there's a setting to only play with people close to your level).

I've been playing League for about 3 years now.  I can honestly say it's one of the best games I've ever played, and it is definitely worth checking out.  I'll do a little write up for anybody interested in learning about the game.  There are currently 3 different game modes, 5 vs 5, 3 vs 3, and Dominion.

The most played map is the 5 vs 5 map.  The map is split diagonally, and there are 3 lanes with 3 towers belonging to both teams in each lane.  Everybody starts with some gold for to buy starting items.  Gold is gained through killing minions, towers, enemy champions, and also passively over time.  At 1:30 minions from both bases spawn and run down the lanes to fight each other.  Your goal is to kill the enemy minions and push your minions into the enemy tower.  Once the tower is attacking your minions you can attack the tower, (if you try to attack the tower with out minions early in the game the tower will kill you).  Once the first few towers are destroyed, teams tend to group up and fight 5 vs 5 battles.  Once three enemy towers in the same lane are destroyed, you're able to attack the inhibitor for that lane.  Destroying the inhibitor will cause your minion subsequent waves in that lane to spawn an extra super minion.  These super minions are really strong, do good damage, and have high hit points.  Behind the inhibitors is the nexus, protected by 2 more towers.  The nexus towers are special because they can regenerate hit points, while the lane towers can not regenerate.  You win the game by destroying the enemy nexus.

There are different types of champions you can pick from.  Some are high damage casters that specializing in nuking enemies down with burst damage.  Some casters specialize more in supporting through providing utility to the team through healing, damage mitigation, stuns, slows, movement speed bonuses, and other non-damaging effects.  Others provide sustained ranged auto attack damage.  These are your archers or gunners.  They tend to die quickly when focused, but can easily do the most damage on the team if they stay alive in the fight long enough.  There are assassins who like to wait for the initial team fight to break out before using high mobility to get in, kill their target, and escape with out getting killed.  There are also fighters who like to hold the front lines.  The fighters usually provide some utility like slows, have high hit points, and can provide crowd control effects to allow your casters, assassins, and gunners to get their damage in with out dying immediately in the fight.

Typically in a 5 vs 5 game, the support caster and ranged attacker go bottom, a burst caster or assassin goes mid, and a fighter goes top.  The fifth champion is known as the jungler.  The jungler can be a fighter or assassin.  The jungler's job is to kill the neutral monsters that spawn around the map, and set up gang kills (also known as ganks) for his team mates in the lanes.  This is known as the European Meta game which was adopted by the US about 2 years ago.  Early game lasts the first 10-15 minutes.  People focus mostly on getting gold and experience early game to try to get to the mid game with some kind of advantage.  There may be a few kills in the lanes with or with out the jungles assistance.  After the first 10-15 minutes the game enters the mid game.

Mid game is when teams try to take the major objectives.  The major objectives are towers, dragons, and the baron.  I've already explained the towers, but the dragon and baron are special.  Dragon does a high amount of damage to champions early game, so at around 10 minutes teams will try to kill him as a group of 3 or more champions.  Dragon spawns between the middle and bottom lanes, pretty much equally distanced from both teams base.  Killing the dragon gives a good amount of experience, and also gives gold to everybody on the team that got the killing blow up him.  After  the dragon is killed it will re spawn 6 minutes later and can be killed again.

Once people start to reach level 16 and more towers have fallen, maybe even the first inhibitor has been destroyed, you begin to approach the late game.  The later in the game it is, the longer your re spawn timer will be.  So what was only 10 seconds off of the map for dying early game, may become 40 seconds or longer.  This is when teams tend to take the Baron.  The Baron is similar to the dragon, but is much harder to take down.  The Baron gives more gold than dragon, but more importantly it provides a buff that gives heath regeneration and damage amplification.  Usually the Baron is only attempted when a team has a 2 man advantage because when attempting it, there is the chance the enemy team could come as a group and kill the team who was weakened by Baron, then take the Baron themselves.  The late game continues until one team has enough of an advantage to destroy the enemy nexus.

If 5 vs 5 isn't your thing, you can play Dominion.  The Dominion map is a circle with 5 capture points.  The goal of dominion is to hold more capture points than the enemy long enough to win.  Once again its two teams of five, but on this map you start at level 3, with more gold than 5 vs 5.  You gain more gold passively, and you gain less gold from kills.  Fighters and assassins dominate dominion.  Basically anybody who is strong at dueling 1 vs 1 is amazing on this map.  Typically when the gates open teams send 1 guy bottom, 1 guy takes the capture point north of the spawning location, and 3 people go strait for the capture point at the top of the map.  There are HP packs around that provide a little bit of heath and mana sustain.  In the center of the map there is a storm shield buff for each team.  The storm shield provides area of effect damage and damage mitigation to the champion that takes it.

The 3 vs 3 map has recently changed, and I am not extremely familiar with it quite yet.  It is also still in beta, so it may change soon.  It's similar to the 5 vs 5 map, but there are only 2 lanes.  The map is split wit the minions spawning east to go fight west and the ones spawning west to go east.  Each team has an alter to control which is in the middle of their jungle.  There is also a speed boost in the center of the map.  Controlling one alter grants bonus gold on minion kills.  Controlling both alters provides a buff to everybody on your teams damage.  At the very top of the map is the Vile'maw.  The Vilemaw is a giant spider, and it is a raid boss similar to Baron from 5 vs 5.  Killing it grants an HP regeneration buff, and gold for your team.

If you have any questions about League of Legends, or just want to play, send me a private message on vizzed.  I check them a few times a week.

I do play LoL and other players do rage at you if you're not completely sure how to play. A big fault of the game is that there's no one way to build a champion so that could lead you to building an ineffectual champion. There are many sites which have builds of champions and no way to tell which site is the most accurate.

Also my LoL name is the same as here: Name Entry. I'm a level fifteen and usually play against bots because going against other players tends to take much longer and is more stressful in feedback from your team members.

League of Legends is definitely one of my top 5 favorites. The description given by Triforce is correct (and possibly overly lengthy).
While what he said seems like a lot to process, LoL (League of Legends) has a very thorough and helpful tutorial process which will teach you everything you need to know in order to jump into games with other, human players. Also, practicing against bots is always allowed and is a good way to learn quickly and without the scrutiny of other players (you won't be judged if you're bad when you play bots).
I highly suggest that, if you plan on trying LoL, you look up some of the videos of tournament matches with commentary. The game is getting hugely popular, and the competitive circuit is insanely advanced - but don't let it deter you from trying the game, because it's free, after all. There's a steep learning curve, but a lot of tolerance along the way for learners - in fact, you can't even play Ranked Matches ("ladder" matches, basically) until you've played a lot of practice games and/or Unranked Matches, so you don't have to worry about being a noob. As with all games, you have to start somewhere.
Probably the only thing I dislike about LoL is that it is difficult to test-drive new Champions (the characters you play as, which you can freely change between matches). They're pre-made, so you don't have to grind it out in a single-player mode or PvE area, which is nice. However, the result of that is that you don't always know what you're getting into when you play a new Champion, and, in a similar vein, you don't always know what you're up against or what to expect from opposition. But once again, this is just part of the learning curve, and you will learn over time.

EDIT: My in-game name is BenTover0. I'm level 30 (which means I play mostly Ranked Matches), but I'll play games with anyone if you want company.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
