Shootout is an old western cowboy style game.  The player must start by shooting jars off of cacti in a set time limit, if you can't shoot all the jars within the time limit, you go to the high score screen and its game over.  Then the player squares off against various enemies that pop up around the town. You may also choose to be with or without lives.  If you choose without, you can't lose in the second round (fighting enemies in the town).

Graphics
The graphics are nothing spectacular, but at least everything doesn't look the same.  There are two settings, the desert filled with cacti, and the town, filled with goons.  The graphics are passable, but nothing more than that, at least you can make out what the jars look like.

Sound
In game there is no sound, other than the firing of guns.  Music does play during the high score screen, but it's nothing fancy.

Addictiveness
This game is like a game you would play at an arcade, it's not overly addictive but you can kill some time here.  It's fun just to get the hang of, but after two or three rounds it gets very repetitive and starts to lose it's novelty.

Depth
It has more depth than some of the other games for the C64, though not by much.  It has two different play areas.  The first you must shoot down a number of jars within a set time limit.  Each jar nets you some points, however, if you don't shoot every jar, it's game over.  The second area is walking around the town.  You are given a set number of people to kill and must notice them jumping up around in the houses and shoot at them.  If you are not quick enough you'll be shot and lose a life.

Difficulty
Like most C64 games, it has a bit of a learning curve, you don't have much time to figure out how to aim and shoot and by the time you start to get the hang of it, you're already dead.  However, the game does give you the option to turn lives on and off, essentially making yourself invincible in the second area, which severely lowers the difficulty.

Overall
This game isn't great, or even good.  It's an arcade game, one that you would pop a couple quarters in and play for a half hour and get bored when you were a little kid.  Fun for the first 5 minutes, then it turns into a repetitively boring game.

That game doesn't sound special. But than again I'm not a fan of arcade games.
